I'm not at all convinced we are going to keep the #1 pick and it's not because of the chance to get more draft picks. The big cat has been trimming the payroll and having to #1 pick doesn't seem to be in line with the approach Richardson has taken over the past year. I see us trading for a 10 -15 in the first and possible a 1st next year.

Do you not see that the way Richardson spent last year was due to the CBA, and that last year's spending is not indicative of his approach to spending during the last 15 years?

Am I the only one who understands that this past year is an aberration, and that Jerry is not a cheap owner?

Exactly. With a new CBA Luck will probably be more like $20-25MM guaranteed not 50. Mix that with the inevitable cap raise that happens every year, and we have more $$$ to spend than any team in football. We'll add depth and pick up some quality free agents and we'll be rolling. Atlanta's franchise was in shambles after the Vick/Petrino debacles and look at them now. Franchise QB, new coach, new GM and they're on fire. Sound like another team you know? It's not out of the realm of possibility that this thing gets turned around very quickly.

Side note: if we get Luck, the NFC South as a divisional whole would be the mecca for NFL QB play. Should be fun to watch for years to come. Luck v. Brees, Luck v. Ryan, Luck v. Freeman. Just awesome.

I would rejoice that the organization finally made a correct decision. Because how smart is it to hand over 50mill and the keys to the car to someone who just started passing the ball this year? Last year all he did was hand it off to Gerhart

Good point, BUT i think Luck is as good as people say, NOT feeling Cam Newton like everyone else, i rather keep Clausen than go with Newton. Newton's not ready to start as a rookie and NEEDS to backup for a year, i think Mallett and Locker are both better picks than Newton is.

like i said, i am a fan of Clausen, but i would have to take Luck, it's hard to find ANY negatives on his game, but after that i wouldnt take any other quarterback besides Jake Locker and even that's hard for me to do. Luck has franchise quarterback potential, the others just have potential, but i think it will all have issues. Newton's NOT NFL ready and would have to sit on the bench all year or almost all year. Ryan Mallett's arm is big, but i think he will throw many interceptions and be sacked alot and Jake Locker will do some things, but i think he could make a silly mistake that you will wonder how that happened.

My plan would be unless we can get at least two first round picks (one for next year), 2nd, and a third, then don't trade Luck. If we can get those picks and a player or two, 100% trade Luck for all he's worth. I figure we solve all our problems in the free agency except for franchise QB (Of course unless we can sign McNabb or Orton), and draft a QB to be our guy of the future. Whatever we do, do not let Clausen start another game for the Panthers. I would be relieved if they just got rid of the guy. If we could trade him for a seventh round draft pick, I would consider that as good as him winning a championship for us.

unless you are the pats, this is what usually happens. teams that get a butt load of picks usually end up squandering them.

in this case we would end up missing out on a chance to have a great QB here which would be the ultimate fail.

it would make it even worse if we passed up on newton as well and felt like we could go with one of the QBs we have here already.

Honestly I don't recall the pats drafting very well especially when they have had so many picks over the years.

I don't think we would squander them especially in the first and 3rd rounds haha.

I've always stood by this team no matter what.... For the first time it would make me question this team and could probably lose some commitment to the team. If the stars align...(Right season to stink it up, Have the #1 pick, Luck declares, no real $$$ tied up at the qb position) and we pass on a possible true franchise qb for the next 15 years...I for the first time, probably would not care as much what the hell this team does.
