NFL Playbook breaks down Jimmy Clausen & our Defense

for 3 yrs Godfrey has been VERY consistent....he will go 2 games or so and everyone will talk about how he is showing improvement and then he always shows you that he simply is that same old guy. You know the Steelers have some big plans for Mike Wallace and to catch Godfrey out of position.....get out of position and there is no making up for it against speed like Wallace.

Perhaps thats true, but the question is how does he compare to other safeties in the league. Or perhaps is he truly having a bad game, or is the other team having a good game.

I am not picking on you, but sometimes I think fans expect our own players always have a good game, and rarely or never get beat. And since we are not the 85 Bears or even the 02 Panthers, that seems unrealistic. All I expect is for our defense to always give us a chance to win, and for the most part, they have this year. Unfortunately, the offense hasn't been good enough to take advantage of the opportunities.

Someone earlier in the thread said that Godfrey has done pretty well this year, except when he was run over by Hillis. Well Hillis is pretty good at running over people, especially safeties, so I don't really expect Godfrey to stop him much.

I disagree about Godfrey. I don't care so much about the int's as most of those were luck, but he has improved as the season has rolled along. Sure, he has gotten burned a few times, but that happens sometimes even to the best. And at least some of those problems were lack of pressure on the passer, something else that has improved as the season has progressed.

Do they keep a stat on lucky int's? I mean this was said a lot last year when Godfrey started getting picks after his injury. I don't understand how if a player like Polamalu is in position to make a pick it's great instincts but if its Godfrey its luck?

well, I think they said he has done pretty well since that game. I didn't have a problem with Hillis trucking him. Everyone gets beat......it is how Godfrey gets beat that irks me. Like I have said, this year he has made me quiet some of my bashing b/c I really think he is a great athlete. It is showing more and more. He just doesn't seem to have a great football IQ imo.

well there is a difference between reading a QB/route and getting into position and getting a pick.....and a ball thrown to no man's land or knocked up into the air. One shows great S play....the other is a great play off an opportunity.
