QB Guru on Clausen, Luck, others...

Im pretty sure earlier in the season people (as in, more than one poster so not just LPF :P) were saying Smith wanted to be in the slot and not be #1... I dont recall sources though.

edit: okay apparently in March of this year, Smitty gave an interview saying he wanted to not be the #1 so he could play at all WR positions.

edit2:

Ok, I was wrong. He specifically said he wanted to play in the slot all day :

I would like to be a guy that can play in the slot all day
from http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/post/_/id/9199/smith-i-dont-want-to-be-a-no-1-anymore

now, unless you've got your own evidence why are you getting all over people for "rumor mongering"? some of us have been reading this board so long it takes us forever to find poo from interviews.

others of us remember things really really well and just need the right search term. >.>

Luck coming out is a possibility, a very high one depending on the CBA and a soon to be rookie cap. Harbaugh/Grimm actually has a possibility to happen. Smith asking for a trade is a rumor, but him being traded is a possibility none the less.

Now Smith actually saying "I want to play slot" Is not a rumor, an assumption at best, but it should of been worded better IMO. And I read this board everyday and have never once heard that "rumor". I've heard that he should play slot based on his age, I've heard that he can/will be dangerous in the slot. But never once have I heard anyone state plainly "He wants to play slot". So yeah I'm singling you out because you are the first to post that.

If you don't like being singled out on a post then don't post.

Jesus Christ, you do need a hug.

I can't believe we wasted a 2nd round pick on Clausen. After reading the scouting report I don't see enough potential in him to see him being worth a second round pick. I have noticed Clausen having small hands and I didn't know he had the smallest hands out of all the qbs in this draft. Now scouting reports aren't always 100% accurate but This guy seems pretty smart about his reports and seems pretty accurate about Clausen. After reading this I pretty much believe we MUST draft Luck if we want to be succesful.

In today's NFL you have to have a good QB to be successful. I don't think any team in the past 15 years has won with a bad qb, besides the Ravens. We need to get Luck and with the 1st pick we will be able to get him without a problem. People think he might stay another year but I honestly can't see a player who is going to be the #1 pick stay another year. I honestly want us to get a stud DT but we could adress that in FA or in next years draft. We cannot turn down a quarterback with his potential.

COME ON BRO FOLLOW ME, if he's in the slot he cant be on the outside now can he. Welkers better than the Patriots #2 but they still load him in the slot half the time

Andre Johnson lines up in the slot position several times a game. Teams do that to create mismatches.

Smitty is tired of being THE WR. He is still is a #1 caliber WR. He might not be what he was a couple seasons ago but he still has what it takes. 08 showed that....and 09-10 with Moore (until he got benched shows it).

A big reason they do it is to identify man coverage. I just think Steve is tired of being doubled teamed and beat up at the line all day. Its just Steve's way of trying to get a receiver here to help offset the coverage.

How can you not believe we wasted a 2nd round pick on Clausen? Some had him going in the top 10 picks of the draft. No it hasn't worked out so far, but saying he wasn't worth a 2nd round pick is wrong.

I remember the same things. So it floored me when I saw him actually throw the ball in preseason. I couldn't believe that the guy who was reported to have a good throwing motion was sidearming it and throwing it so low with a slinging motion. I wonder what happened??

The media hype machine.

Link? Since when did Smith come out openly saying he wanted to play slot?

You are ether:

A: a stalker

You're also assuming we have the #1 pick. If ATL wins this week, they will surely rest their starters against us the final game as they will already have home field locked up. Funny if we win that game and pick 2nd due to strenght of schedule.

I'll destroy something I own with a Panther logo on it, and I'll film it.

You guys keep leaving out a key piece of info... Getting a QB is only part of the problem the other part is getting a coaching staff in their that can develop that talent.... Moore can throw the ball, Clausen can throw the ball... but it doesnt look like they where managed well.... A young quarterback needs to be taught how to be a great qb... This has been the biggest thing this season and overall with Carolina... they dont develop QBs.

Ryan Leaf was can't miss, and many other players, now I want Luck but the idea that any player is can't miss is a joke.

not quite true. there were criticisms of ryan leaf just as there were jamarcus russel, those being he was lacking in intangibles. neither were considered all that mature but people fell in love with their size and cannon arm and thought that would win games on their own. you look up any report on either guy and you will see that. their physical talent carried far too much weight in scouting reports and personnel decision by the teams that drafted and (in the case of the chargers, traded up for).

you look at any bust QB and you will see an inbalance in their scouting reports. you need to have a real balance between physical ability and intangibles. from what i have seen, luck has that and so have many others which is why so many poeple think so highly of him.

    • Film Room Playlist _ NFL Pro — Mozilla Firefox 2024-11-25 10-20-11.mp4 🎯🎯🎯 There were a couple of "fans" yesterday saying that this wasn't a helmet-to-helmet shot... 👀 Looks like based on where Moore was and where the play ended, he'd have gotten maybe just a yard or two more. Chuba was downed at the KC 16 and Moore was on his way back to the QB, so the offense got what they could for the most part. After reviewing the all-22, Bryce made the right call here. Tremble was the hot and KC sent both LBs. He gets it out with a clear pocket but it's quickly collapsing. If there was a little more time it looked like AT came free at the end but whether or not Bryce would've been upright still is another story. Smart move to get the completion and keep the field goal in play to stay alive. George Karlaftis is about to get himself a big ole hug and Bryce heaves it to where David Moore is going. Trent McDuffie slipped just a step or two before this shot, but we can see the clear DPI here as he's wrapped around David Moore before knocking him over as the ball gets there.
    • I’m taking a TE early day 3 Ian Thomas and Tremble are FA.  We should have no desire to bring them back.   There’s more than enough film of ball bouncing off their hands or facemask.
    • Daniel Jones sometimes would sling it for 300 or 400 yards.  That's my stance.  We know what Bryce is.  If you consistently play any QB at this level, they largely are going to end up w/ some good days/games.  last time Mahomes was at BOA, Teddy Bridgwater threw for 300+ yards and a couple TDs and the Matt Rhule Panthers almost took him down.  We know what Bryce is.  Now we got people predictably falling into a predictable trap.
