Since when is Steve Smith not a legit #1 WR?

Steve Smith is still a threat.. but we need a legit #1.. unless Gettis or LaFell seriously steps up into that role next year, we need to do the smart thing and acquire that guy and let Smitty step into the slot.. unless of course we are waiting 2-3 years down the road for this to happen and Smitty is old and wore out..

The thing is our O coordinator is from that system. So it shouldn't be a stretch. And your are right, Smitty would be great in the slot as would Goodson. We actually have the personnel to run that system and with our running game could have a decent offense. That is why the present problems are so depressing to me. We wouldn't be awesome with our young guys but we could surely be better.

good point, i dont think davidson will be here next year though. If AE works out as planned he could be a monster in the slot as well. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens staff-wise

I think the Patriot's offensive system is a great pass blocking line and a quarterback who can go through progressions.

Smittys' production went right back up when Moore started in 2009 and continued until he was benched in week 2.

Smitty doesn't want to be that guy anymore. Smitty is still a legit #1 caliber WR though.....even if he has taken a step back. Semi decent QB play and his production supports that in recent history imo.

Still didn't answer the question. When did Steve Smith say he wanted to play slot? When? Because if you can't prove that with facts then it is clearly not true. I am free to judge football intelligence when it is not backed by facts.

I'll freely say it's based on assumptions, just the same as most things on this board are re: Luck coming out of the draft, Harbaugh coming here, Grimm coming here, Smith asking for a trade. You're ridiculous to single me out in a sea of rumors. But do as you wish, won't keep me up at night.

Luck coming out is a possibility, a very high one depending on the CBA and a soon to be rookie cap. Harbaugh/Grimm actually has a possibility to happen. Smith asking for a trade is a rumor, but him being traded is a possibility none the less.

Now Smith actually saying "I want to play slot" Is not a rumor, an assumption at best, but it should of been worded better IMO. And I read this board everyday and have never once heard that "rumor". I've heard that he should play slot based on his age, I've heard that he can/will be dangerous in the slot. But never once have I heard anyone state plainly "He wants to play slot". So yeah I'm singling you out because you are the first to post that.

If you don't like being singled out on a post then don't post.

Probably the most important characteristic. The only QB I can recall who came out of college with such high accolades is Elway.

Funny, but if the Cam Newton bandwagon continues to gain steam, it could be very similar to the Ryan Leaf - Peyton Manning debate before that draft.

So I looked up Clausens height and handsize at the combine last year and actually found this tidbit about his weaknesses

Clausen has a somewhat low release point. Release point combined with less-than-ideal height leaves Clausen susceptible to having passes batted down at the line. Has a strong arm but lacks premier arm strength and may struggle at times fitting the ball into windows deep down the field. He will be unable to participate in combine drills due to toe surgery.

Thats is pretty much the same thing this guy said about him. So this is not something he just came up with based on the season.

But funny when I remember back to the draft I also got the feeling Clausen had not many bad things about him. Now with all the Luck stuff going on and you start reading more on Clausen and there acutally was some concerns about him. With Luck there is NOTHING..

Why do you ask him for advice on Clausen? Do you genuinely think he is an unbiased observer? He magnifies his mistakes and ignores everything else.

Not asking him for advice, but since he claims to have seen him growing up he may remember if anyone commented on a weird throwing motion.

A weird throwing motion does not by itself doom a QB anyway, but I didn't hear much about it before the draft.

I am not the first person to post that. You're new here, so don't assume you know everything. He has said he wants someone else to be the #1, and he WOULD be better in the slot than as a #2. I don't care if you single me out or not. I don't care if you nitpick everything I say. Go ahead if you enjoy it. You won't find much to nitpick.
