QB Guru on Clausen, Luck, others...

It amuses me how QB "coaches"/armchair QBs come out of the woodwork to blast guys who are struggling, jump on the bandwagon of guys in college, then the next year diss those same guys they touted and say "I told you he was bad at that."

Agreed. I didn't want to insert my opinion into the original post, just write down what Whitfield said so anyone could get the info without my personal bias attached. With that said, I found it very conspicuous that he never mentioned a single negative to Luck's game. I don't recall him being asked about any short-comings either, but that could be my selective memory. Admittedly, I don't know how to grade the QB position at all, but it would seem to me that all of the NFL franchises and scouts want to know the negatives, how bad they are, how correctable they are, how coachable the guy is, how does he respond to criticism, etc...

Some guys can be real touchy when someone critiques their craft, and just don't respond well. Other guys can immediately swallow their pride, take instruction, and correct their errors. I wonder which kind of guy Clausen is? or Luck? Newton? etc...??

I swear, if the Falcons secure the division next week and rest their starters against us I would fully support us purposely tanking that game to secure the # 1 overall pick...

Seriously and with all honesty if I were the Falcons I wouldn't want to face a guy that's supposed to be the next P. Manning twice a year. I will literally break my TV if they mess us up on purpose. Guess ill be rooting for the Saints monday....LAME

good luck finding anyone who can find real weaknesses in luck's play. most people have to stretch to find them. usually it has something to do with an awkward release that he has from time to time (but all said is very coachable), he doesn't have "elite" arm strength (but is said to still be able to make all the necessary throws easily), his lack of experience, and the level of competition he has faced (though no serious draftniks or analysts has mentioned this or thought it was worth mentioning).

from all signs he is very coachable, deals with corrections and criticisms well and learns things quickly. he's a pretty humble guy from what i have seen and heard. he's also able to lead the guys in the huddle really well and guys on the team are pretty much all his biggest fans.

fwiw....that last paragraph could be said of newton as well, but there are a whole lot more criticisms of him. most of which could either be coached out or really aren't that big of a deal in the long run, imo.

He also said that we could have a Philip Rivers and Drew Brees Situation in a couple of years.
with luck we'd probably have the better end of that deal. clausen has done very little to show he can be at all competant in this league.

i still say our best chance to get anything for him is to unload him during the draft.

remember with the chargers situation, they didn't get anything for brees.

LOL @ everyone that automatically assumes we'll beat Atlanta's backups.

I don't even want to run the risk of beating their backups, I want to get blown out so I don't have to spend the next 15 years watching Luck be an elite QB on someone else's team knowing that we missed out on him by a SoS tiebreaker.
