And why the fug do they keep kicking to him.

Well in Brian Mitchell's mind there was. They had the top 10 greatest return men show on NFLN Hester got #1(11 return tds) and Brian Mitchell (13 return tds) made a comment that he was #1 because he had the record even though Hester had the 2 they don't count at the time in just over 250 returns. Mitchell had over 1000 returns to set it.

Mitchell's argument now holds no water officially.

Was he joking about it? Cause i would be a smartass and say i hold the record too but i'd be joking.

Brian Mitchell was watching the game Monday night from a sports bar in Manassas, Va., when Hester moved out of a tie with him in the NFL record books.

"I told you a long time ago I knew he would set the record one day," Mitchell said. "I knew it was going to happen.

"I am totally excited for him. I love to see anyone bring that kind of excitement to the return game. It's great for the game for special teams to get this kind of recognition. I've been saying since Devin was a rookie one day he would have the record. I knew he would. Now, there are plenty more touchdowns for him to go after."

The numbers are stunning. Hester reached 14 touchdowns in his 74th career game and on his 286th return. Mitchell finished with 13 touchdowns in 223 games and 1,070 returns in a storied career in the NFC East. Mitchell knows Toub well. When Toub was a special teams assistant with the Eagles, Mitchell was closing out his career there. Some might recall the play in the 2001 playoff game when Mitchell ran over Mike Brown, giving the Bears' young safety a concussion.

Finally, what's next for Hester? He has 10 punt returns for touchdowns and that ties him with Eric Metcalf for the most in NFL history. Hester has reached the total in 174 punt returns. Metcalf had 351 in his career

It's not all about touchdowns. Yards per return are most important. Upchurch has .1 of a yard less on punt return average than Hester on about 75 more returns than Hester. Billy Johnson has .4 of a yard less on 107 more returns. There's not even a comparison of Hester to the kickoff return greats because thats not his forte. Samething for the greats that could do both.

So... statistically, Hester has a better average than both and more TDs than both. I don't understand upon what you're basing your argument.

Longevity is the key. Returning the ball more times while still having a high return average is more impressive. For example, a RB that has 5 yards per carry every year for 5-10 years is more impressive than one who has 5 ypc over 2-4 years.
