Clausen Poll .....

Zod

Recommended Posts

some of a and a little b. Clausen just isn't good......and looking at rookie like Skeleton just brings out how bad Clausen really has been.

Skelton was not good... He completed most of his passes to wide open receivers who had no defenders even near them, then add in that he had Larry Fitzgerald to throw to (yes he is much better than Smith).

He stood in the pocket like a statue and we pressured him all day long because of it. Then when he had to make a precise throw, he couldn't.

To say that Skelton played well and Jimmy did not is complete naivety.

Look at the offense as a whole and we have two 'veterans' in Gross & Smith and the rest are no more than 4 years in the league. Time and again I see us get caught out by non-standard blitzing or coverages, which is the sort of thing that only experience teaches you.

When our players are faced with simple one on one matchups (especially our OLine minus Williams) we tend to fair pretty well.

When we are faced with stunts, delayed blitzes and overloads we tend to struggle mightily.

LaFell, Gettis, Bernadaeu, Schwartz, Williams, Goodson, Fiametta & Clausen (add in Moore & BSP) are all starting for the first time in their careers. That's a crap load of players to have where they have only been back ups before.

You simply can't judge a lot of Clausen's game yet, which sucks for him because he looks to be losing his job because of it. He has struggled in areas, but no where near as the majority here want to believe. With two rookie wide outs, no reliable receiver at TE and only two players on the OLine having over a season's worth of starts under their belts, who is going to do well?

Frankly I perfer the fact that he is careful with the ball. It's frustrating, but it's also refreshing that our QB is not trying to throw games away.

I also maintain that if the coaching staff showed any confidence in him, you might see a more confident performance.

In 2 more games the rookie reference will be gone as will all the excuses. Look at Skelton or Clausen for example, Skelton is playing his second game ever and first on the road. Clausen has started half a season and played in others. If Skelton looked even half as good as Clausen it would be a huge indictment of Clausen. And as for Fitzgerald or Breaston, at least Skelton is looking downfield and making throws. How many times yesterday did Clausen throw a 3 or 4 yard pass when he needed much more. Sure check downs are necessary at times but that is his game right now. When he should be throwing downfield he check downs to a back, when he needs to checkdown to a receiver on a blitz he takes a sack.

The coaches would be more confident in him if he were showing that he knows what he is doing and making plays. We typically go conservative and run all the time when it clear that the passing game isn't working and we have little choice.

David Carr was careful with the ball as well and will be looking for work at the end of the season. The reality is that unless you can find the windows available in the pro game and are accurate enough to hit them with regularity, you won't be playing in the NFL as a quarterback. What people are most concerned about is that Clausen has shown little progress from week to week or from the beginning to the end of the season. Whether he plays well or poorly is totally dependent on how poor the opponent is. He has shown no ability to elevate his game or play better against decent teams.

He will be here for a few more years and will get his shots but only a fool would put all their eggs in that basket and not look for a serious upgrade. The assumption is that Luck for example would come in here and take the job outright and that is probably not true. Clausen could earn the job with the rookie here just like Vick has silenced all the Kolb chatter. He just hasn't shown much to think he will.

for his second start, Skelton showed a lot of basics that Clausen still hasn't shown. Skeleton looked to be ahead of Jimmy as far as the speed of the game and making different throws.

never said Skeleton was good. Just comparing his in his 2nd start to Jimmy....and he simply does some thing better than Clausen. All things considered, Skeleton looks further along than Clausen.

If you really look hard, you can see that Clausen is improving. It may be happening slowly, but it's happening.

It may be A, but we won't be able to know that until we fix B. The O-line has been the biggest disappointment of the season, by far. They have given Jimmy almost no chance. The bigger thing, however, is our stale offensive scheme and playcalling. It just doesn't seem to me like any QB in the league would succeed in our offense this season.

he isn't developing fast enough that we can afford to pass up on luck.

Again, a lot of people said similar things about Charles Johnson and Stanley McClover as Rucker's replacements... and wanted us to draft Derrick Harvey... lol...

Much like that situation, our QB situation is way overblown... Maybe we bring Moore back... He and Clausen + a vet or even a later in the draft rookie will be all right so long as we fix the coordination and execution... some stability on the OL and a solid #1 WR won't hurt either...

    • This has been every game this year. We get blown out and have to come back.
    • The really frustrating thing is that Hubert knows why he has to do scheme wise with this roster he just doesn't want to do it until we're down big and he's forced to do it then we come roaring back. Just do the damn thing from the get go. fug how you want to play ideally. Good coaches adapt their schemes to the talent they have. We have a lot of talent we just lack any post presence on either end of the court. Press and get after it from the opening tipoff and stop waiting until you're down 20 to do it.
