You guys are busting a nut over Charles Johnson being 13th in the league this year in sacks. Well C-God is 6th in the league in picks! He must be a top 10 defensive player too right? Trade both of them for 2 1st-round picks!11!!11!!!!

No no no... you see.. CJ plays for the Panthers, and as such is easily a top 5 DE, if not the best in the league...

That's comparing apples to oranges. We all know Godfrey's stats are misleading.

We also know that Johnson gets pressure on a consistent basis, while playing with virtually zero help from the interior D-linemen, and is great in defending the run. He is an above average d-linemen with potential to be better if he had some help from the DT's.

It's really weird that you guys don't want to support the team's best player. His play is pretty much the only positive of this disaster of a season, you should be enjoying it.

He's not even close to being the team's best player. Has he improved? Has he been a pleasant surprise? Yes to both. But he's a liability against the run and has made a killing off the coverage/cleanup sack this year and shouldn't be compared to Peppers. And I do support him, there will always be a special place in my heart for guys like him and James Anderson and Captain Munnerlyn that rose above their raw talent levels this season by busting their asses to improve even in a season that's been this horrific.

Huh? He's been great against the run. And has been relentless as a pass rusher all season. You must be watching Brayton lol

Also he's easily been the team's best player this season, noone's even close (Anderson was but his performances have tailed off recently).

He has been great agiasnt the run. Its been his pass rushing that he's needed to improve and he has. Very few people are saying he's a top 5 player. He isnt. But to think he' having a great season isnt a strech by any means.

CJ might not even be here next year...

I agree on Hardy, but we need some interior help badly, and some strong depth would be nice...

They have looked better due to an overachieving LB corps (mostly Beason), and an above average secondary...

"Overachieving" LB corps? DU, I like your train of thought and football insight, but to call them overachieving may be a little bit of a stretch. Beason is a beast. Anderson has proven to beast, and the others are above average IMHO. If Thomas Davis comes back and resembles anything close to what he was, then our LBs will be a decided strength on the team. They will have the opportunity to be the best LBing unit in football.

Johnson has steadily improved and is a bright spot on our team. But comparing him to Pep is comparing apples to oranges.

Peppers is a very physically gifted who can take over a game and dominate physically. On the other hand his effort is suspect at times and he disappears for stretches.

Johnson is not nearly as physically gifted but gets his sacks and tackles with hard work and effort. Both are effective but hardly comparable. They both do their jobs well and Johnson has worked hard to pick up the slack when Pepper's left.

Obviously Johnson is significantly cheaper but lets see what he demands moving forward so we know just how great a deal he is. Seems to me that Peppers is happy where he is and we weren't going to pay him to stay. No need to waste a lot of time worrying about a Chicago Bear player at this point.

    • No one is asking him to be Tom Brady. They're just asking him to be as good if not better than Cooper Rush, Jimmy Garoppolo and Carson Wentz. We'd like Young to be better than Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield, but we're not even asking for that. No matter how you cut it he's going to be considered a bust for what was given up for him. He should be outpacing Cam Newton, Jake Delhomme and Kerry Collins game for game in their careers. He should at least be challenging the clutch level of Brady, Mahomes, Stafford, Goff, Garoppolo, Burrow, Hurts and Purdy. Remember that's based on the draft capital given up for Young, and not the extremely low bar Young has actually set for himself.
    • Even if you cherry pick Bryce post benching and ignore everything else and project it out over a full season….. there is no statistical  argument Kyler has ever been worse.   I’m no Murray fan as I agree he is more athlete than QB.   And I’m open to Bryce improving and support us continuing to develop him as this point.
    • We need LBs--build the roster from the bottom up.  On offense, we have Coker who has been huge...if you fill your weaknesse without having to use free agent $$$ or draft picks--win win.
