Why not just sign/trade for 1 of these guys next year instead of drafting QB?

Possible signings?? : Kyle Orton / McNabb / Kerry Collins

Trade for?? : Kevin Kolb / Matt Flynn

Insert others that you may like...

Wouldn't it make more sense, if you're the owner/coach, if you want the team to return to where it was as quickly as possible, to sign a proven QB or trade for one that you've seen in action? Then use that 1st round pick to fill another need? If the Panthers draft a QB in 2011, that means we will have drafted 4 QBs over 16 selections (assuming we have 7 in 2011). That is 25% of our available draft slots spent on QBs. (Not counting the 2010 compensatory selection).

What are your thoughts??

I don't know man. Orton benefits from a HC that knows how to dial up plays on offense to make a qb appear great. Look at how Orton was with the Bears and that's probably how he'd be for us.

Same thing for Kolb. McNabb, Vick, Garcia, Kolb have all look amazing in Reid's offense. Garcia sucked when he went to the bucs afterward, McNabb sucked afterward when he went to the Skins. Vick sucked as a passer before going to the Eagles. I wouldn't want to roll the dice on Kolb.

It depends on who our next HC will be, I guess. We may hit lucky and he'll have a mind for offense or he'll have an eye for talent when it comes to hiring the new OC and we'll be one of those teams (Eagles, Packers, Pats), where it doesn't matter who the qb is, they'll look good in our system.

Umm...just where was this team? Four winning seasons in 16 years? That's where you want to return to as quickly as possible?

No, sorry. This team needs to change its philosophy and do what it takes to get a long term franchise QB. Just plugging some guy in there who can manage the game won't cut it any more. I don't care who took the Ravens and Bucs to the Super Bowl oh so many moons ago. Those teams haven't been back since. I don't care if Eli and the Giants D had one great year either. I want a team where you know it's going to the Playoffs. We need a damn LEADER. A Brady, a P. Manning, a Roethlisberger, a Rivers, a Brees, etc. Not to mention the Falcons are the real deal now, the Saints have a few great seasons left, and the Bucs have found their franchise QB.

It's time we grow up and play with the big boys of the NFL.

We do, however, need a vet to mentor said franchise QB. That is a must.

As bad as I want to win next year I'd rather have a player to give us 10+good years than someone who will only give us two maybe three years. The NFL and especially the NFCS is built around franchise QBs. Id like to get a vet but one thats only there to provide leadership to our franchise QB. We need a long term solution, you cant slap a band aid on a bullet wound.

we have to find our own guy. preferably luck if he decides he wants to be a panther. if not, i'd say put some serious weapons around clausen and see what happens. bulk up the line and bring in another #1 wr. im starting to believe smitty is only making things worse, though i don't think it's all his fault. the timing is not good for him.
