Overlooked by many was how highly touted Jake Locker was this time last year. He returned to school and came back down to earth. From guaranteed #1 pre-season to potential 2nd rounder next year.

Luck and Locker are in no way clones, but the possibility is always there. Clausen may not be the answer, but I would still like to know what we have in him before I completely jump ship to Luck.

We can still keep Clausen and have him compete against Luck. If Luck struggles, then Clausen starts, and Luck can continue to develope. That's certainly not jumping ship, it's a fair competition at the most important position in the NFL.

Luck, Clausen, and (st. pierre/moore/null/pike/vet?) ? Which would be the third option?

My thing with clausen is this: He was a second round QB. Bradford is not doing well (less than 6 yards per attempt) and McCoy and The Golden Calf of Bristol are not ready. I just don't think rookies are going to be good. Luck will have people trying to run him out of town by this time next year.

I would lean toward Matt Moore being the thrid option. He proved last season that he is capable of playing at a high level when the pressure is off his shoulders. Not a bad guy to have on the roster, even if he'll only play in case of emergency.

2 young QBs competing just seems like some unnecessary fodder. I wanted this season to end knowing unconditionally that Clausen can be our future QB, or know that Clausen cannot be our future QB.

One minute he has serious potential and another he looks like an utter novice with no upside. I just hope these last 2 games can answer these questions so I feel better when we draft Luck in April, or he plays our team outside of even having the possibility.

Cam Newton should not even be considered an option.

Part of my being a panther homer wants to believe all the media hype around Luck! That way, he enters the draft and is taken by Carolina and us fans celebrate the numerous rings he will win us based on one good year at college determining he is the next John Elway!

The logical fan within says that the smartest thing to want happen is, we trade out of 1st overall pick and grab us a later 1st, a second, and possibly a third! If the trade is a success then we spend this coming draft addressing our defensive needs, a shut down corner and a DT that commands double teams.

Don't get me wrong! If I hear that we select Luck with our 1st pick, I'm not gonna cry cause as it looks like the NFL moves to an 18 game schedule then back up QB just got ever so more important! However, the team is just a couple upgraded talents away from having a young defense that will cause opposing OC's to lose some sleep and upgrading our defense should be first on any fans list!

As young as the defense is and if the FO spent this draft getting the last few pieces of the puzzle fitted then the FO could spend the next 4 years just drafting offensive play makers.

If anyone wants to play researcher, I'd like to know how many sacks we've given up since 2008. Maybe 2007. All this talk about once having one of the best O-Lines in the game, and now it imploding, got me thinking: was it ever REALLY that good? Or was it only good for opening holes for Double Trouble? Just look at the time Brady has to throw a ball. It's silly! Jake never seemed to get that luxury. Moore and Jimmy have been brutalized this year. I think our O-Line has never been anything more than a unit that excels at plowing the road. We need to get some better pass protection in here.

Someone who's bad play needs to be addressed more (especially considering what we pay him) is Jordan Gross. On at least 5 plays that I saw while at the game today he simply did not adjust quick enough and the defensive lineman walked passed him...especially on that Clausen sack within our own 10 yd line. For being such a vet, he should not be missing these type of things. It seems like he will just occasionally step aside and let em by and its infuriating.
