1. Carolina Panthers

Top needs: DT, WR, QB

Pick strategy: Carolina is in a really peculiar spot. Right now they really need a dominating interior presence on the D-line, and Auburn's Nick Fairley is an option, but he'd be a bit of a reach. The Panthers also need help at wide receiver, but they're young there with guys like David Gettis and Brandon LaFell (Steve Smith could be elsewhere next year), and they wouldn't likely take A.J. Green at No. 1. Bottom line: It comes down to Andrew Luck. Don't take it as an indictment on Jimmy Clausen, who has struggled as you'd assume a rookie would in this setting, but they could really like their QB and still take Luck. If he's there, he's the guy. If he's not, it's a possible trade down, or perhaps Fairley has worked his way into this range.

Ya, I know we need a Defensive Tackle capable of collapsing the pocket but I don't see anyway we're passing on Luck if he's there when we draft. With the Bungles winning today it looks like we might just draft first.

There is no way we pass on Andrew Luck. He's BPA, BPA at the most important position, and also our biggest need. DT isn't even CLOSE to as big a need as QB. If you put points on the board and keep your defense off the field then you automatically start forcing teams to throw and it doesn't really matter what kind of DT you have. QB effects every aspect of a football game...

If he doesn't come out then you have to at least think about one of the other QBs. Either that or sign a veteran because Jimmy Clausen is ruined and wasn't good to begin with.

Why is mentioning Kiper weak? He's the best draft mind in the business, his word is pretty much good as gold and a ton of NFL personal think so.

Franchise QB there=you take him. Green Bay did it with Rodgers when they still had Brett Favre for a couple more years.

Yeah after they took "franchise QB" Rogers, next years draft they took QB Brian Brohm in the 2nd round....

So essentially they wasted a 2nd rounder...

Kiper is weak. Best draft mind? Hardly. Mike Mayock ruins him.

Yeah and now GB is one of the best in the NFL when Rodgers isn't sitting out.

Earlier today on ESPN, McShay and Kiper were making “bold predictions” for the 2010 draft and, they both focused on Clausen’s status.

Said Kiper, “If Clausen’s not a successful starting quarterback in the NFL, I’m done.”

McShay then said that Clausen will not go in the top 10 picks.

“I’ll take that,” Kiper said. “I’ll take that one right there.”

Jimmy is as competitive as it gets," Kiper said. "His accuracy is outstanding; his arm strength is good. ... To me, there are no questions about his competitiveness and leadership."

Many were stunned by Clausen's rapid fall from grace. None other than ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr., who has more draft knowledge under his well-oiled hairdo than just about anyone, had Clausen as the No. 4 overall pick going into last night's NFL draft.

Kiper looked almost as forlorn as Clausen. They could probably both use a hug from Andrews.

You could almost read Kiper's mind, saying, "After all these years, how could all these NFL scouts and generl managers doubt me." I couldn't help but think of former Indianapolis Colts general manager Bill Tobin, who once uttered, "Who the h--- is Mel Kiper Jr.?"

      Even if he beats the odds, returns midseason  and plays like he did last year it won’t warrant a big contract extension.

      It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
