Pat White

Pat White = Eric Crouch 2.0. He will not be drafted to play QB and if he is drafted to play QB then the owner is an idiot. He is at BEST a poor man's Vince Young and will never succeed in the NFL under center. The best he can hope for is to be the next Randle El type player and turn into a WR that can run trick plays every once in a while...

The End

Yeah, he's too small. Hey, Drew Brees, you are too small to play in the NFL.... oh wait.....

You haven't seen the best of Pat White, trust me. He just needs a chance. And the small QB argument is retarded (Brees/Garcia/etc) are all very very small for QB "standard".

Small QB comment may be retarded, but you're just looking for exceptions to what people want. If you're drafting a guy in the earlier rounds, he better have everything you want. Troy Smith was a Heisman Trophy winner.. where is he now?

Also, just because Drew Brees and a couple other qbs were deemed "too small" to be in the NFL doesn't mean all qbs that were "too small" to play will be as successful. Saying that Drew Brees "made it" tones down the risk, but in the end it's still a risk to not take someone with the prototypical body.

Basically, saying it's -possible- doesn't make it -probable-

As for Rodriguez worrying more about wins than developing kids for the NFL, that is their job and what they get paid for. I have never seen a college coach get bonused on how many guys they had who went to the NFL. It is all about wins. They are coaches not NFL development coordinators.

I acknowledged that in my posts. I just think it's a shame the kids wind up losing out because of it.

The Randle El outcome might be correct, but I have to disagree with the Vince Young comparison. White is smarter. And I'd strongly disagree with the Eric Crouch comparison. Crouch was a whiny crybaby. White has been nothing but a stand up guy.

I'd snag him in a second if he dropped to the 5th round. He's a good leader and can throw the ball, his athletic ability is just a plus. I think he'd mesh well with our running game as well, providing another threat for the defense to deal with.

Well, I'll have to defer to the people that watched him play every week. Sure, he impressed me in the bowl game, but that's a very small sample size.

If I knew he could play that way on a consistent basis though, I would take him in a heartbeat.

Look, he played great in the bowl game, but that was the first time he was really given a chance to display his passing skillset. It's not that he's failed as being a passer, it's that he's played the way his team needed, to win. He's definitely a question mark, but it's not a "he couldn't do this" thing it's a "we don't know IF he can do it." Which is why a late round would be worth it on the guy. He has blazing speed and he's pretty smart when passing, also a team player, if that isn't enough to at least get a shot (with a low round pick) I don't know what is. I'm not wanting him to run all the time, but if you have a guy like him that can pass, AND have the "threat" of busting out a 10-15 yard run in a blink of an eye, that's valuable. It's like when we had Davis spying Vick, while he did shut Vick down, we had to dedicate a defender to this guy. Good luck covering White and Smith and DWill etc. Remember, some of the best players came from people just giving them a chance (Warner, Delhomme, Brady, Cassell).

Black QBs dont deserve a chance. There's no upside when it comes to them and they dont have the ability to get better. All black QBs are just a poor man's Vick. No thanks.

Kids don't lose out because coaches want to win. First of all without wins programs don't get recognition and no one would know how he is. If he didn't play on a winning team and play in a bowl game, he would never have showcased his ability. And he surprised a lot of folks who really didn't think he could throw that well. I dare say he surprised most people.

Secondly, if a coach thought that developing Pat White to be a pocket passer would net more success and a better passing game they would have done it it in a New york minute. The consensus is that White is not and never will a pocket passer partly because he can't see over the line and doesn't read the field or go through his progressions very well at all.. He is an option quarterback because that is what he does best. He had a great playoff game and a few other games this year where he threw very well. But he had many more games where he was mediocre at best. He is not a great quarterback and is a longshot to make it in the NFL.

Until he rolled NC with 322 yards he only had 2 games all season where he threw for over 200 yards. He had 2 games where he had less than 75 yards passing and 9 of his 12 games he threw for less than 150 yards. The reality is that his 322 yards aainst North Carolina is more of an aberration than the 72 yards against East Carolina. And his poor passing yards weren't because he was running the ball every play. In half of his games this year he accounted for less than 200 yards combined.
