Yeah KT, I wasn't gonna address that issue, but I have to mention it now. This is the ONLY reason that people are saying he can't play QB in the NFL. I won't say it's because they don't think he's smart enough, but more or less it's just because he is black, and that is it. It has always pissed me off that black QBs aren't given a chance to come into the league as QBs just because on average they are more athletic.

Reggie McNeal, Josh Cribbs, Antwan Randle El, Hines Ward, Brad Smith, etc. You're telling me those guys couldn't do what Rex Grossman did in his time as a starter? Grossman was given the benefit of the doubt because he is white. Heck, Ken Dorsey has logged starts as an NFL QB and he couldn't throw a 10 yard out, let alone throw a ball into the ocean out of a boat.

I feel ALL college QBs should be given the chance to start at QB in the league if that's what they played in college. The issue with black QBs is that the undercover racism behind them taking a historically "white position" is the elephant in the room that no one in the NFL wants to acknowledge. The powers that be let a guy like Warren Moon (who had to fight years to even be given his chance as an NFL QB), Kordell Stewart, McNair, or Vick play because their dominance was clear. But I don't think that the number of black QBs in the NFL is anywhere proportional to the number of black QBs in college. Why should a guy have to switch positions for being an outstanding athlete with great college numbers? Simple. Racism.

You're right PDiddy. I agree 100%. As for Pat, I think he's got a chance to compete. Its gonna take someone believing in him and giving him a chance as a QB to prove he can play. It'll also take coaches who will take the time to help him learn the position in the NFL, because its a beast for anyone to try to play. But I definitely think Pat has the poise and ability to get it done. I watched his Bowl game performance here in Charlotte and was impressed with how well he played in his last game.

I think he will get the oppertunity some team will atleast try him out at QB. Im a WVU fan and watched him all the years he was there. He has shown progress every year and still has a upside which I think will help him. Will the Panthers draft him? I doubt it as he doesnt fit our scheme but I wouldnt be surprised to see the Dolphins pick him up to be QB. Still like I said he needs atleast 2 years before he will be ready.

Yeah, the thing that has gotten me when I've watched him is his ability to keep plays alive, a la Roethlisberger/Vick... But at times, he seems to be incredibly accurate. I don't mean just hitting guys in the numbers on routine, wide-open throws... But like the Senior Bowl TD throw, he fit it in between the holes in the zone coverage (or at least double covearge, as it seemed there was a defender underneath and a guy over top IIRC). I watched him in several other games as well, (may have been ECU, Cincy, and USF) and he repeatedly threaded the needle to get the ball to guys. I have always thought he would be a great QB in the NFL. The thing, as many of you have mentioned, is consistency, and it has to be developed. I hope we get him.

I could give a sh*t what color the guy's skin is. If he can step into the pocket, toss the long ball, has accuracy, and is more of a prototypical QB - then draft his ass. If he's black and the next Joe Montana, I'd be happy as hell we got him. Anything other than that philosophy is just plain stupid, because it's not what's best for the team, and that's all I really want at the end of the day.

Of course then, I'm not an NFL owner or coach either, just a simple guy who wants his team to win.

Pat White is another of a long line of college quarterbacks who will likely struggle in the NFL. Sure Drew Brees is only 6 ft tall like White. And other quarterbacks like McNabb are only 6-2. Still the issue of how well they can actually see the field when linemen on both sides of the line are significantly taller than White is are real. Vick had the same issue which was why he struggled in the pocket and could only seem to throw the ball when he was on the run and could actually see the field. Brees seems the exception to the rule staying cool under pressure and sliding well to open spots between linemen where he can see the field.

Sure White could learn to do that as well, and may turn into a decent quarterback. But with so many guys out there with as good of a background and better physical attributes, why spend a high draft pick and resultant money on a guy who has some limitations right out of the box.

And please don't use examples of Montana or other guys who are short and did well. Again there are exceptions to the rule. Still there are guys out there who are 6-2 or taller like Matt Ryan and have the total package.

Does 2 inches matter that much. In quarterbacking and sex it apparently does!!!

i don't think i really buy that. that's like saying the guy has too much athletic talent to be on the team.

if he can get the ball to his receivers, i don't care if he does it from the pocket or not.
