The greater good

I find it funny we have to argue about who are true fans and who aren't.

I always found this to be one of the more moronic arguments to have. A fan is a person with a liking and enthusiasm for something. As a fan we have the right to criticize the team we follow as much as we have the right to be a "cheerleader".

A fan is someone who will support their team thru thick & thin, who will wear their heart on their sleeve and voice their opinion whether positive or negative towards the team et al.

Well then here's hoping we don't get that first pick to use on a QB or to trade away for more picks; here's hoping we stick with Jimmy, continue to flounder, stay mediocre as ever, and eventually become the damn Lions (who, btw are slowly getting better due to Drafts). But as long as we root for pure crap, we're better fans than anyone else who knows how this team needs to improve and is willing to sacrifice three games to get that improvement. Right?

Look, this team has never been great and never will be unless things change around here. This might be the most important Draft in the history of the franchise. Having the best pick is the key. But you go on and root your ASS OFF for 4-12. You're the best Panther fan everrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Yeah, it would suck to be the Lions who took two "guaranteed" franchise quarterbacks over the last eight years and are getting good enough to win 4 games, maybe, after consistently drafting in the top ten for the past ten years. But whatever, keep towing this "greater good" line like you're some Machiavellian genius, and the people that want to win now are ignorant of the situation. You want the first overall pick? Fine, we could win another game and still get that.

BTW...I'm a huge fan always have been and always will. No one can ? my fandom. I sat through a 1-15 season and what did that get us? Julius f**king Peppers. He was a pretty good player.

Yeah and if we had the first overall pick that year, Fox said we would have drafted David Carr who was a laughing stock in this league, and the team would have missed out on Peppers, a pretty good player.

Bottom line, nobody knows how anything is going to play out. So you might as well hope the players that make up this team, and who will continue to make up a large part of this team into the future, play with some heart and professional pride and string together some wins. If we get the first overall pick, that is super. If we pick fifth overall, that's fantastic. Either way we get a great player that, hopefully, helps this team for a long time.

In Panther land no one ever imagined going 1-15 and having the 1st pick overall.

Plans change.

How do you know some don't ?

when facing a 1-15 season, the finger is being pointed at everything and everbody as to why things went wrong.

it's no longer just about playing to win, it's about playing to keep a job.

no player is that freakin stupid to try and lose out to have the number one pick...as a matter of fact, it's pretty damn embarrassing to the players to have "earned" the first pick.

having the first pick in the draft means you failed...miserably.

it's not something to be proud of.

I know I'm a true fan.

And as a true fan i can root for whatever the heck i want.

Today i am rooting for a game that's not over by halftime. And that the stadium doesn't run out of beer. And that beer is $1.00 today for PSL holders. And then there is a giveaway or a decent halftime show for once. And that Clausen throws for 300 and 3TDs.

and that beason knocks the soul out of some opposing player right in front of my seats

and the cheerleaders some out in stockings and garters

Am i rooting for a win? I could give a poo honestly. Don't care. A meaningless win to go to 2-12 doesn't excite me at this point.

Not nearly as much as $1.00 beer day would. Or slutty cheerleaders

Wins in a normal season carry over to a small degree, but this year, with Fox leaving, there will be no carryover. A loss solidifies your future quite possibly as an NFL powerhouse for the next decade, while a loss sentences you to more mediocrity. I see losing as an investment. Those who don't are into instant gratification and consolation prizes.

The question becomes is hoping the team loses showing support? Again some would say yes, some no.
