Are you kidding me?! The guy misses almost the whole year and lights it up for 5 rec 112 yards and 3TDs!! If the Chargers do end up giving him his walking papers (which I doubt) we need to make a big play for him.

There are no papers to give, he is not under contract. Much like Drew Brees, and M. Turner, he will most likely walk, and they will get compensetory picks depending on his level of play.

Only other real option is for them to franchise him, and either let him play on a 1 year, or trade him. Spanos and Smith will want to wash their hands of him, but Rivers and Norv will want him back. Either way, he won't be coming to Carolina.

It seems the FO thinks Lafell and Gettis are our WR's of the future. If Smith leaves then it's possible, but I doubt it happens.

I don't know. He's very talented, but there's a couple of things:

1. One more infraction and he misses a year of play I believe.

2. He is racking up DWI's like my circle of friends (we are terrible people).

3. The money is obviously very important to him.

4. Phillips Rivers could get a hundred yards and a touchdown out of a boot with a Chargers helmet strapped to it. A lazy boot at that.

Other than those concerns, and possibly a few more, he is a homerun.

I know he's a FA. We need all the help we can get. Gettis and Lafell will never be #1 receivers. I love Smitty but he's getting older and wants to be in the slot. Jackson becomes the #1 that enables you to move Smitty.

My defense for and against Jackson.

For:

Unreal size/speed combo with some hands to go along with it.

Extremely hard worker.

Not a locker room cancer like many WR's.

Against:

1 misstep from sitting out for 16.

Is best known as a deep threat, and has one of the best deep ball throwers of all time at QB.

Stroupe makes a good point. I would just hate to see this team with no viable options if Smitty gets hurt or traded. We need a vet.
