Agreed with Maine....only 1 89 from here on out...regardless of if he's here or not next year, that jersey is done, retired. We've been fortunate to have such a great player with heart and who's inspired countless people. Yesh, he's f**k@d up, but who doesn't, we've been lucky to have him.

I guarantee if Smith isn't here next year, there will be another 89.

To get open as the #1 WR and not get the ball is FRUSTRATING. I am all for closed-door meetings. I am not all for showing your ass to the press. Fix the problem, Smith shuts up. He should be in pro bowls but the team can't get him the ball. There is also the fact that he has started to slow, gets double and triple covered, etc.

I have said it before. Smith should be pissed at Marty Hurney for not developing QB depth or bringing in a quality #2 WR in 10 years.

and holding penalties on 15 yard gains, and calling time outs and cussing out the qb, oh and getting a rare 7 yard gain and going ape poo like he did something

He called time outs cause Clausen wasn't watching the play clock, just saying. I find it funny how people get so pissed at RUMORS that Smith wants to leave. No one can even confirm it. Even if he does, players leave all the time. It's part of the game.

Steve is THE greatest reciever in carolin history and i be disapointed to see him leave But you have to realize that his career is coming to an end and he hasnt won a champioship yet..he probably has 3 to 5 years left and he wants to win....i can see why he would want to leave and go to another team bcuz we're rebuilding...it might take us a few years for us to have seasons like the 03 or 05 or 08...he wants to win now and he feels like he has a btter chance to do it somewhere else...i dont think we should sit here and bash him cuz hes given his heart and soul every game and he deserves respect...All i know is with or without him i will still be a panther fan but i will also cheer for him wherever he decides to go

if he wants to leave trade him for a WR that at least can try to replace him. you dont just cut him and lose him for free because what if you let him go, dont get a free agent WR and you go into next year with LaFell and Gettis???? if that happened then Newton would be in trouble with passing the ball, you need to at least get a number one guy, there could be some good free agents on the market. there is talk of Holmes and Edwards leaving, perhaps one of them could be signed, but anyway, none of this can happen until the NFL gets it's rear in gear and gets this lockout over.

Smitty wants to be remembered as one of the great wideouts from this era. Tough to get in that conversation without a ring.

QB's are measured by Super Bowls, WR's not so much... Smitty already cemented his place as one of the best WR's of this era leading a underdog team to the Superbowl and winning a triple crown. Go rewatch our Superbowl run in the playoffs if you need a refresher, but it sounds more like you need to see it for the first time.

If he leaves he is abandoning the fans and team that made him what he is, an awesome ballplayer. We stood by and supported him during his shortcomings, retire a Panther Smity.

riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. :jc:

    • Keep my wife’s name out your mouth!
    • Yeah I'm not into college as much, so I admit not to having my own opinion about him coming out. But strictly watching ESPN shows, and going off of commentary at the time..It was a lot more 50/50 even on this board than what people like to remember and admit.  Yes many people had doubts and questions, but MANY people also thought he could possibly be the one. I was only versed enough to know that it was between he and CJ, but most pundits made it sound like either way we had a QB of the future, just different skillsets/traits.
    • Jonathan Mingo to the Cowboys Cowboys receive: WR Jonathan Mingo, 2025 seventh-round pick Panthers receive: 2025 fourth-round pick  Dallas Cowboys: C Leave it to Jerry Jones to wait until after Dak Prescott is injured to go after another receiver. To be fair, the Dallas Cowboys have a real need for the position. CeeDee Lamb is a superstar, but Jalen Tolbert and Brandin Cooks haven't been the needle movers that the Cowboys were hoping for. Making a trade for a receiver wasn't a bad move, but the player that the Cowboys gave up three rounds of value to acquire is questionable. Jonathan Mingo checked a lot of physical and athletic boxes as the 40th-overall pick in 2023. Unfortunately, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound wideout has struggled to be a productive receiver at the NFL level. Some of that has to do with playing for the Carolina Panthers, but Mingo has seriously lacked efficiency at the position. Mingo has yet to record his first NFL touchdown, catching 55 passes for 539 yards. Per TruMedia, he has just 0.74 yards per route run in his career, which ranks 177th out of 186 receivers with at least 50 targets since the start of the 2023 season.Even though Mingo fills a need, that's a lot of value to give up for a receiver that's struggled so much at the NFL level. The good news is that he still has a couple more years on his rookie deal, so at least the Cowboys are getting a cheap developmental project to learn from a star like Lamb. Carolina Panthers: A Instead of trying to hold onto Mingo, the Panthers took what they could get, and that turned out to be way more than expected. Mingo quickly became expendable thanks to the rapid ascension of rookie receiver Xavier Legette. Along with a larger-than-life personality, Legette has hauled in 26 catches for 244 yards and four touchdowns. Three of those touchdowns have come in the last four games, with Legette becoming more and more of a focal point in Carolina's offense. For a team that needs to capitalize as much as possible on draft assets, moving up three rounds in the draft to move on from a disappointing draft pick feels like an absolute win. https://www.the33rdteam.com/nfl-trade-deadline-2024-grading-every-move/
