On subject (crazy I know)

Biggest arguement for not replacing Jake is nothing is really out there at the momment.

I would love for us to grab someone (with a peppers pick if we get some) to start pushing Jake for a job. Someone with some freaking pocket presense so he can feel pressure, and a quick release. Sadly Fox isn't going to do this, which I think is a mistake.

Fox isn't going to do it because despite his last game, Jake is still a pretty good QB and can manage the game pretty well. We have more pressing needs elsewhere, and it would be a mistake for Fox to invest a lot in the QB positino before addressing those.

Besides, Zod says Moore will be our next QB, and who are we to argue with him? :)

Not only is that the biggest argument it is the only one.

I am not a fan of any of the high round QB talent either. I will never want to be bogged down with a QB contract. We are supposed to run the ball, play great defense.

We need a game manager. We have one that had made too many fantastic plays that have no always been largely due to his efforts. I think Moore can do it. And I do not care if we miss the playoffs next year because of it. I am sick of Jake Delhomme. I believe that the defense is sick of him too. He has proven that he can throw the game in the crapper beyond repair over and over.

"there's nobody better"...in my opinion there are very few that are worse.

It's the same argument with John Fox. If they both were shown the door tomorrow morning and we struggled with a young unknown in both of their spots for the next two years I could give them credit for effort. The window of opportunity passed long ago. If you truly want to be a Steelers clone in Charlotte, you have to cut dead weight without a second thought. Something JR has never had the ability to do.

I agree.

But after the last performance an announcement need be made public or not that the competition is open. He played terrible more than one game last season. Smitty and Deangelo bailed him out of enough games to make the playoffs despite him looking like poo. We do not need to keep saying he had "one bad game".

he had one horrible game, several bad games, several mediocre games, a couple good games, and maybe one great game.

he's a poor match for the quality of the rest of this team.

This thread is about Packman.... how so?

Anyhoos, seeing how it now concerns one of my favorite subjects, Jake, I don't think there's anything that some good old fashioned coaching can't take care. I'm talking specifically about the new QB coach. IF he can FINALLY get Jake to execute decent fundamentals, he, and us, should be alright.

Jake, after all, did come back from serious surgery, and one not performed often on QBs. So Jake proved that couldn't stop him. One game, bad as it was, should be a motivator to work even harder than years past, and learn the lessons that need learned. Chief among them: was he tipping off his passes? Did the Cards (and possilbly other teams throughout the year, like the first Bucs game, or the Raiders, pick up on that)? Correcting that, and working on the aforementioned fundamentals, could contribute to a good year for Jake, hence us, in 2009. But I'm just leery about the fact that we haven't ever, repeat, EVER, put 2 decent playoff contending seasons together back-to-back. Our running attack produced what, 30 TDs last year? That's the strength to build on offensively. Good fundamentals by our QB(s) can make that happen again.
