If we get a first round pick

for Peppers who would you take? Obviously we'll need a DE. My board for them in order would be:

Brian Orakpo (Texas) 6'4" 255lbs (incredible strength for his size)

Everette Brown (Fla. St) 6'4" 248lbs (probably fastest of this class)

Tyson Jackson (LSU) 6'5" 292lbs (excellent speed for his size)

Tyson Jackson is a 3-4 DE. Everette Brown is too small to play 4-3 DE. He is a 3-4 OLB. If he's stubborn and wants to stay at DE like Hilee Taylor, he will take years to develop. A lot of people value Orakpo as a 3-4 OLB as well, but I think he can play in a 4-3, he just doesn't have the same value there as he does in a 3-4. JMO, you're welcome to yours.

There aren't any Julius Peppers/Mario Williams/Javon Kearse types in this draft and the only one in free agency doesn't want to play for us anymore. The talent just isn't there, wanting it to be so and reaching for it is a mistake IMO. I think a committee approach is required by drafting some mid round talent that fits our system, picking up another vet FA and enlarging the committee to solve our DE problem. We already have some pieces in place with Taylor and possibly Brinkley. Brayton and Johnson are solid, but aren't world beaters.

With a mid-late first round pick for Pep, I like Peria Jerry. There are other options for DT in the later rounds if another player with better elite talent is available in the first round at CB or even for the OL. There may be some first round talent at QB, but I haven't seen it yet. Sanchez could be, but it would require a long hard look to make sure before we pulled the trigger. He lacks experience. I would rather pick a guy that has the elite talent to start immediately in our schemes than pick talented square peg for our round holes.

Exactly. it is obvious the need we have but there isnt the outright talent there for the taking. The kid from Tenn really showed up at the Sr. Bowl and might be had in the 2nd round.

Depending on what we get for peppers pick wise will help determine who we take. I still say our offense doesn't have a TE worth a damn and needs one badly but that is just my opinion.

Not to mention the Johnson kid from GT. The Panthers have never drafted "need" so dont expect to start now. I guess if you're bored, you can continue on with this thread.

Correction, Panthers never draft positions you think we need.

From a value standpoint, it's useless trying to add someone purely based on being the best available at the position you need if you're not getting any better at the position for the price you're paying for it.
