The Next Head Coach

he's had success, his players love him, and they think he'd make a great coach. what "more" do you want from a coordinator or assistant? that's not meant to be sarcastic, i'm genuinely curious what else you want to see to sell you on a guy with no track record as a head coach.
how aggressive he is with his defenses. how he is as a motivator or a leader or a communicator. his football philosophy. his ability and willingness to make adjustments.

would he bring a passive offensive/passing game?

also, i really want to know why he hasn't landed a job as a HC yet after several interviews. if it's because he's a bad interview (as some have said) how does that change as a communicator with his teams?

Rob Ryan good, Mouth isnt as big as Rex.Probably would be a good head coach. What makes me wonder is how good of a team he can put together with our talent probably a better.Never had that much of a great talent with the browns on Defense.Dont know how his days in oakland was but heared the defense was pretty good. Also what worries me is his offensive staff i probably wouldnt pull to many from Cleveland. I think Rivera would be a better choice.

Any one else think it's weird that 2 different guys are saying we have a surprise? I really don't think any of the names so far are the "surprise." Makes me nervous to be honest.

I'll be surprised if it comes form this group.

But if it does, I will trust they have found the guy.

(Bet Hurney would have a stroke after a Ryan press conference.)

CHARLOTTE — The Carolina Panthers will interview Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan for their vacant head coaching position, league sources confirmed.

That brings the list of known candidates to four.

The Panthers have also been granted permission to talk with three other current NFL defensive coordinators — Perry Fewell (Giants), Ron Rivera (Chargers) and Greg Manusky (49ers) — a strong indication the team wants to hire a coach with a defensive background, just as they did in 2002 when they landed then-Giants defensive coordinator John Fox.

The Panthers appear to be nearing the end of their coaching search.

A source close to the situation indicated that while the process remains fluid and a new candidate could emerge at anytime, the Panthers are expected to interview roughly the same number of candidates as they did in 2002 (five) when they hired Fox. In that year, the Panthers spoke with five candidates — Tony Dungy and Steve Spurrier, both of whom turned down the job, as well Marvin Lewis, Ted Cottrell and Fox.

Ryan, 48, is the son of former NFL defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan and the brother of New York Jets coach Rex Ryan and probably the most colorful candidate of the four.

He’s spent 13 years in the NFL, working as an assistant coach experience on his father’s staff in Arizona, as well as New England, Oakland and Cleveland. This past season the Browns finished 21st in the league in total defense.

The Panthers only expect to interview 5.? What they only have one spot left.
