The Next Head Coach

Mr. Scot

Well I believe Luck will come out. He has two because i dont think there is no way he stays at Stanford. So I believe we do get Luck, but if he stays an Harbaugh leaves it will really hurt his draft stock next year, thats just my opinion. But i believe Luck comes out.I dont have a clue about Harbaugh right now.But he wont return to stanford.

We all remember the last coach/QB combo and what they did for us. The Fox/Delhomme "package" we endured for many seasons. Now of course it's not the same scenario. But when a coach is to attached to their QB it blinds them from making the better decision when things go bad. I'm all for Harbaugh/Luck combo, but this is just some food for thought.

There are really only two reasons why we would be hearing at this point that Harbaugh is not considering the Panthers:

1) The Panthers have directly or indirectly communicated that they will not pursue him

2) Luck has told Harbaugh that he absolutely is staying in school next year

If Harbaugh still doesn't know about Luck, or he thinks Luck is leaning towards going to the NFL, why would anyone say that he's nto considering the Panthers? The only answer is that the Panthers are not interested in pursuing him. Why in the hell would Harbaugh want to talk to the 49ers and the Broncos but not the Panthers if he thinks Luck is going to declare? So again, it's got to be one of the two options above.

Let's hope it's not #2.

As for #1, I wouldn't surprised if the Panthers weren't interested in making an offer to Harbaugh. I could see JR being opposed to the idea of bringing in this coach/QB combo for a lot of reasons. JR and Hurney obviously want Harbaugh to leave Stanford (to increase the likelihood that Luck declares), so they could be motivated to participate in the bidding.

Option 3 is that nobody has a damn clue, but then again, why would report that the Panthers are out of the running? I don't buy the "media doesn't want Harbaugh in Carolina" talk.

Option 4, as I stated above, is that the Panthers are supplying mis-information. Does no one remember the ESPN report that there was no way Keyshawn Johnson would end up in Carolina based on information supplied by sources inside the Panther's organization? Hurney is skilled at playing the NFL sources game and has and will use it.

This is the reason I'm not going to be real upset if they don't go after and/or hire Harbaugh. Which could be the reason they are not in the running for Harbaugh, they like Luck at QB more than Harbough as HC and don't want both.

We'll get who we'll get.

I have my favorites, but if we don't go that route I'll still hope for the best.

Granted, there are certain things which might make me question the judgment of the people in charge (passing on Luck would be a biggie) but it's a competitive business and you can't always get what you want.

Hitting the NFC South links

January, 3, 2011 Jan 33:43PM ETEmail Print Comments1 By Pat YasinskasTime for a quick afternoon trip through some headlines around the NFC South.

The Panthers reportedly have requested permission to talk to New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell about their head-coaching position. Makes sense because Fewell is a hot name and he grew up near Charlotte. Fewell also is getting some interest from Cleveland. It’s likely the Panthers are in the process of setting up interviews with several other candidates. General manager Marty Hurney, who will lead the search, is generally very thorough and doesn’t rush into decisions.

I Hope not..? We will be better off going with mcdermott..

Ron Rivera to interview with Panthers

January, 3, 2011 Jan 37:58PM ETEmail Print Comments By Pat YasinskasCHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Add another name to the list of candidates to coach the Carolina Panthers.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the Panthers have asked for and received permission to interview Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. The report said the team and Rivera are working to set up an interview in the coming days.

The Panthers already have asked the New York Giants for permission to interview defensive coordinator Perry Fewell. It is believed the Panthers are in the process of trying to set up interviews with several other possible candidates.

Rivera helped San Diego’s defense allow the fewest yards of any team in the league this year.

Carolina owner Jerry Richardson, general manager Marty Hurney and team president Danny Morrison are scheduled to meet with the media Tuesday morning to discuss general plans for the coaching search.

I don't get the Fewell hate, or any candidate not name Harbaugh for that matter.. Its like people think that Harbaugh is the only coach that can be successful for this team..

For all we know, Fewell or Rivera may be our Sean Payton or Mike Smith, which are unknown assistant coaches who has led their teams to the playoffs and winning seasons.

I don't know how many interviews Payton and Smith had, but Rivera has interviewed a ton and never gotten a job.

I just want someone more on the offensive side of the ball. I fear that Fewell is basically like keeping Fox.

Anyone think that the Panthers want the national media and in turn other NFL teams to think that they are not in the hunt for Harbaugh? I'm not saying one way or another but just because someone in the Panther's FO is being a source doesn't mean he isn't feeding misinformation.

Sounds very reasonable. Fact is, no one really knows anything and we will probably never know much about what is going on behind the scenes.

We don't need a offensive minded HC to be successful on offense...

A guy like Rivera could easily bring in a bright minded OC to build this offense into a solid core. Hince the reason why if Rivera becomes HC, I hope he brings Ramsdell will him who developed Warner and Rivers
