Harbaugh to San Fran wouldn't be an awful scenario

I would think if he went there, San Fran would be trying awfully hard to move up to select Luck and would be throwing everything but the kitchen sink at us to make that trade happen.

It would be the best of both worlds:

We either get:

San Fran's 2011 1st, 3rd, 5th and San Fran's 2012 1st

or

Luck

fwiw, if they threw that type of deal at us, it would be wise to take it. We would then have an early 1st, multiple 3rds, and 2 firsts next year. We could nab a defensive tackle prospect early, shore up our offensive line with the 3rd round picks, and have a good setup for 2010

I'm not advocating that this would happen, but I don't see it as an bad alternative to not getting Luck

Of course all this is off the table if he doesn't declare (I believe he will though)

we still wouldn't have a QB. all the trades in the world won't matter until we have a QB that can get the ball down the field and into the endzone.

teams that have scored big on trades like that rarely are able to capitalize on them (unless they are the pats). in fact i would welcome anyone to show me some example of how a team actually was able to make themselves better getting a bunch of picks for one player.

did not have time to read this 25 page thread, but have we already discussed the possibility that Meeks took the lateral move coming here so that he would eventually get the head job?

If this was the case, why didn't they appoint him mid season to see what he could do?

With the SF job now open, and Harbaugh a candidate for Corolina, SF and maybe SD and Denver, supose he wants to stay on the West coast. Now, if Luck wants to go with Harbaugh, couldn't Luck pull an Elway and refuse to go to Carolina? He could stay in school or demand to be traded to the team Harbaugh signs with. This , to me, makes signing Harbaugh the primary task. hopefully, Luck will follow his coach.

From the Audibles section at PFW:

"When you look at Carolina's roster, it is strong. They have three running backs. How many teams can say that? Their receivers are young. The line has not been healthy — missing (starting ORT) Jeff Otah really hurt them this year — but they have a lot of talent across the board. The owner does not meddle. There is not a lot of pressure. That will be an attractive job."
