The Next Head Coach

I don't get the hatred towards Grimm or Fewell.

When people look at Fewell and Grimm, this is what they see.

The fear of Fewell being "Fox II" might not be the most logical thing, but isn't entirely unfounded either. Still. for me it has more to do with his being a sudden "out-of-nowhere" type, something which people tend to fear (and often, rightly so).

Biggest deal of all though? Most likely that folks have their hearts set on a guy like Harbaugh, and past history tells them to prepare for disappointment.

The Panthers will either get both of them, or neither of them.

Very possible.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reported on nfl total access show that Grimm, Harbaugh and i missed the third name, possibly Perry Fewell are the names he keeps hearing linked to us with Grimm possibly being the leader

Jason LaCanfora's not as reliable as he once was, for what it's worth.

The general assumption among a lot of folks is that Grimm has the inside edge because of the Redskin and Steeler connections. I'm sure it helps, but it's worth remembering that Harbaugh has a Hurney connection too, and throw in that Hurney isn't going to be making this decision on his own.

The more I've been thinking about the head coaching position and reading posts on here, I've realized that I want a head coach. I'm not wanting a offensive genius or a defensive mastermind. I don't care if they are in the college ranks or a NFL coordinator.

With that said, it's fine if the head coach is also the one calling the plays for the offense or defense. But if that is the only reason you bring the guy in then you are going to be lacking in far more areas.

A great example of a team hiring a head coach to be a head coach is the Steelers and Mike Tomlin. Tomlin was a 4-3 defensive coordinator that was mildly successful. He'd didn't have previous head coaching experience nor did he have any real involvment with the offense. Most in the media and fan thought hiring Tomlin was about as weird as it gets. But it quickly became obvious that Tomlin wasn't hired based on his abilities to run a 3-4 defense or create an offensive gameplan. The Steelers saw that he had the talents and skills to be a successful head coach.

That, above all, is what I want to see the Panthers do. My unprofessional and largely uninformed (as far as a true football insider is concerned) is that Harbaugh seems to be the best option out there for a head coach among the list of possible canidates that have never been a NFL head coach before. And really, aside from Cowher who retired and left the position still on the upside, the best option among all comers. But that's just my opinion and the fact that guys like Grimm and Rivera are also getting consideration tells me that there are other good canidates out there and looking just at their ability to be a offensive coordinator really doesn't (nor shouldn't) play as big of a role.

The third name was Ron Rivera.. But he also said Grimm was the favorite..

Agree..Danny Morrison will be apart of the search as well. He has a good college back ground been the AD at TCU. But i believe in the end i think harbaugh stays at school. An it will more likely come down Between Grimm an Ron Rivera. More then likely Grimm getting the Job.There is still always that chance that Harbaugh could tell Luck to go ahead a come out he has nothing else too prove In college football. He is one of the best Players in the nation. The thing about that is also, the Front office has there guy an he is Jimmy clauen. I still think we trade down either Luck comes out or not.

Don't want to see any college coaches coming in. And I would prefer someone with offensive coordinator experience.

Schottenheimer is an interesting choice. He has experience breaking in young quarterbacks. That would be helpful whether its Luck or Clausen he has to work with. And he seems to be good at running a heavy run offense, which is what we are currently best suited for.

But he doesn't seem anxious to leave New York, given that he has already removed his name from consideration for HC jobs in Miami and Buffalo. But he might consider a job outside of the AFC east.

i dont mind Harbaugh considering who he would bring with him and his experience in the pros, plus his brother's doing a good job in the pros and i think Jim has potential, as for Schottenheimer, he's my 2nd or 3rd choice.

For some reason, i just dont feel like seeing Sean McDermott in Carolina, i dont know why though, i mean he's good, i just dont know if he's great, rather take Ron Rivera (if we go defensive coach)

I dont think he is ready to be a Head coach. I would give him at least 2 more years at been a coordinator. You have to think about it he wasnt a Coordinator at first he became the man when the late an greatest Jim Johnson past. This year will be his first full year, i think he needs more time.

yeah, same here. i just need to see him more as defensive coordinator, plus it's not like his defense has been great either.
