The Next Head Coach

Mr. Scot

I know, and filling in the rest of the staff will be interesting too. I wonder how many people will the Panthers look at? I'd say 4-5; harbaugh has to be first on the list.

History says it might only be two.

When they hired Seifert, he was their only interview. From what I remember, Capers might have been the only one in 1995 too.

In 02, they interviewed Fox and Spurrier. They were interested in Dungy but I can't recall if an actual interview took place (don't think so, but I could be wrong).

This will be the first time the Panthers have been subject to the Rooney Rule (enacted in 03) so it'll likely have to be two. The past would seem to indicate they aren't big on browsing.

the coach from the Rooney rule would have to be from our own staff, Baker, or Meeks, and then maybe 2 other guys, I would say at this point, harbaugh/schotty(unless they go far in playoffs) then maybe Grimm?

Bringing the ideas of coaches in the playoffs, this would favor harbaugh because their bowl game will be over before the playoffs even start. Is there a rule as to when we can start/search or name a new coach? Could it be the day after the season is over?

Fox contract is really up in February. There isnt any rule that says you cant hire another coach before the contract is up. What i think will most likely happen is after the last game of the season the upcoming week fox will be let go an they just pay out that contract in to february. But dont look for a shock into we will find out who our coach is it wont be 1 week. Going back through history it took the panthers at least to 2 to 3 weeks to find there coach. So we might not find out into February.

Also look for Ray Horton or Hue jackson to be a candiate under the Rooney rule.

they definitely spoke with Fox and Dungy. It was Spurrier I didn't have information on us interviewing.

I was looking for where I asked that, Thanks. As I already stated, I think the stars are aligning that we land Harbaugh, especially with what Mags said earlier about only interview 1-2 candidates. I think we will look at more than that, but not too many more. I still think we'll stay under 5 interviews.

Kind of interesting from Peter King. He said Chip Kelly. I am a season ticket holder for the Ducks, but dont see him coming here. I like what he does and how he develops game plans, but I have a strong feeling he'd be a Martz type HC at the NFL level, but I like how he approaches the press, and I would not be opposed to him coming here. Peter king put him on the short list.. interesting.
