Impressions from a brief Googling of Ron Meeks.

The hiring of Ron Meeks may not be the answer that the Huddle and Panthers fans are looking for. His overall defensive rankings have really never been rated in the top five, and the consistency of his defenses are suspect, particularly against the run.

When I looked at a blog or two, I gathered that some fans believe that his defense may not be aggressive enough, and pretty much paraphrasing, someone said that the Colts won "in spite of Meeks, and not because of Meeks." This is not too comforting.

I realize that with new head coaches, it is pretty much a matter of course for them to purge the system and bring in their own guys, and the new coach of the Colts was going to get rid of Meeks if he had not resigned. I will say that if Meeks was on the level of a Dick Lambeau, Jim johnson, or another DC of that stature, then he would not have been "let go" so easily.

But, like I said in another forum, I will give him the benefit of the doubt. T-Vac had worn out his welcome, so Meeks has to be better than him, right? I hope so. Overall, I will welcome Meeks here with lukewarm optimism, give him two to three years to put his stamp on our defense, and hope like hell that our defense is consistently in the top 10 of all statistical categories (I would say top five, but that's probably unrealistic).

I don't know where they got that. The Colts defense showed a marked improvement with Meeks as defensive coordinator. Your point about the Colts getting run un is true, but I want to see what Meeks can do with a larger defensive line before I rule out his ability to stop the run altogether.

The Colts D sucked against the run almost by choice. Just take a look at their starting D-line this year and you'll be amazed at just how small they were (268, 254, 265, 246).

Raheem Brock actually was their starter at LE throughout the season and he lists at 274 I think. I think what is more important is that they were also short on the DL. So whilst those weights are low in comparison to our 6'7" guys we have dotted on the DL, they actually have much more compact and stout players. What they probably gain with that is a lower centre of gravity and thus they 'should' be able to retain their balance easily and prevent the OL using their siza agains them. Obviously the drawbacks are that they will not get in passing lanes as easily and can be kept at bay against OL with longer arms.

But it is intruiging to think there could be different opinions on regards to how big DL should be...

The hiring of Ron Meeks may not be the answer that the Huddle and Panthers fans are looking for. His defenses have really never been rated in the top five of any statistical category, and in fact have not shown the consistency that we all desire in the worst kind of way.

But the scariest thing about his defenses that I have gathered during this very limited research is a decidedly ineffective ability to stop the run.

At the end of the day is it really gonna matter. Because we don't know if he will actually be able to run the defense. For all we know he is just gonna be a puppet

Bullsh*t.

2002 2nd in passing yards allowed .

2003 was 5th in passing yards allowed .

2005 2nd in pts allowed

2006 2nd in passing yards allowed.

2007 1st in pts allowed 2nd in passing yards allowed. 2nd in total yards allowed.

I was about to bring that up, They were almost always in the top ten in points allowed which is the most important defensive stat there is. Which is exactly how fox thinks. So him and meeks should fit together nicely as coaches with the same philosophy of an effect defense. Last season heck I think they broke a record for fewest passing touchdowns allowed in a season.

All this is a moot point. He just going to be another guy that Fox controls.
