Keeping warm in the House

Ok, so I am not a big fan of running the heat in my house. Mostly b/c I have a big house to heat/cool and its just my wife and I. Frankly my electric bills can be ridiculously expensive if we dont limit how much our HVAC unit runs. (We dont have gas).

First thing I did when I bought this house was switch out the thermostats to 5-2 programmable ones. For those who dont know, they can really save you alot of money on your heating/cooling bills. My units dont run when we are at work, and automatically turn on/off. I usually keep my unit around 63 in the day (when we are gone), and 68 when we are home at night.

Needless to say we have to bundle up. I wear heavy thick socks, sweatpants, a sweat shirt, etc... inside the house. The wife and I have to use blankets galore when lounging around. I do use those electric portable space heaters in my bedroom at night (the kind that uses oil that heats up). They keep the room nice and toasty, while the rest of the house feels like a fcuking freezer.

Anyway, bundle up and stay warm my friends....

Is the home big as in a large volume of air to be heated or big as in sq ft?

If your worried about your bill you should probably look into heating and air efficiency. Packing insulation in every nook and cranny you can find etc. There's a ton of stuff you can do just look for any checklist you can find on the internet.

Some of the more expansive homes I've seen use radiant floor heating in a lot of the rooms because it's more efficient. Not feasable but it's pretty cool. It creates a bubble of warm air around 6 ft high or so.

I switched majors last semester from construction and my Materials professor did HVAC his entire career and become so good at it he did the HVAC for clean rooms used to build microchips. I'm much happier now but that'd have been perfect to ask him.

buy a smaller house and turn on the heat you cheap fug!

it all starts with the feet...so warm socks or some slippers is key.

gas fireplace in the living room....we run ours all the time and with the vaulted ceilings, it warms the bedrooms nicely too.
