Start AE Please...

We have 13 of our "starters" on IR , have only won one game all season out of 13, have little to no chance of winning more than 1 more, have 2 scrubs as our 1st and 2nd qb's, you cant give tickets away because no one cares about this team any more, yet some of you can't see the entertainment value of letting AE play QB at our last home game this year?

Seriously?

Sure, while we're at it let's hire Cowher right now, run the option with AE, Stewart and Goodson, wear all-black uniforms and have the team logo at midfield! Victory.
It worked for us with Williams against Atlanta a few years ago. I don't remember Weinke looking as bad as Clausen did last week. I kept thinking we needed to see some Wildcat.

I was with you until the black uniforms though. I am one of the weird fans who like the Electric Blue alternatives the best.

The way I see it, you want to start Clausen the remainder of the season to be ABSOLUTELY certain he isn't your guy. Look, I know, it's pretty evident now. But the coaches know that the O-line has been a disaster and the receiving corps is not competitive. When you have a very good shot at havin the first overall pick, I want our coaches and GM to be absolutely certain that Clausen isn't the guy, and to give him every opportunity to show that he can do something, anything, after nearly one season of experience as a starter.

Let me reframe the question. Instead of asking why not AE, tell me WHY they should start AE. Entertainment value doesn't cut it. So what if AE goes out and throws for 400, 4 TDs and no INTs and rushes for 100 and another TD. What then? Pass on Andrew Luck based on one great AE game?

What good can come from starting AE other than entertainment value (trust me, I'd like to see it too for that reason)?

I disagree with that. Just b/c the QBs blow doesn't mean the WRs blow. Moore had 5 starts this year.......5 TDs by WRs. St. Pierre had 1 start. 1 TD by a WR.

Clausen is just THAT bad. 7 starts. 0 WRs in the endzone.

If a QB not named Clausen plays.....WRs have found the endzone.

We have never run the option. We ran the Wildcat in '06.

If you don't remember Weinke looking as bad as Clausen, you have a poor memory.

Electric blues = best jerseys we have.

The wildcat is a form of the single wing formation. It can be classified as an option since in it's loosest form the option allows you to pitch the ball, run it yourself or throw it. All available under the wildcat. The reason the wildcat isn't synonomous with the option is that the wildcat is an offensive formation while the option is an offense and offensive philosophy. But option teams will often run the wildcat as one of their formations.

As for weinke looking as bad as Clausen- In the 2 games before we ran the Wildcat with Williams, Weinke was the following:

Against the Giants he went -34 for 61 for 423 yards and 1TD, 3 Ints.

Against Pittsburgh he went- 18 for 28 for 170 yards, 0 Tds and 1 Int.

Compare that to Clausen's last 2 games:

Against Seattle- he went 18 for 34 for 169 0 Tds and 1 Int

Against Atlanta he went 14 for 24 for 107 yards, 0 Tds and 1 Int.

Seems to me the Wildcat should be in full force this week based on Clausen's numbers.
