Only reason to play him would be if they thought he had a ghost of a chance of being a feature QB or even a backup at some point. I don't think they do feel that way, so no point in starting him.

at one point coaches in Carolina told Steve Smith he didn't need reps at WR b/c he was a return man.

as bad as things are, I don't think AE could be worse than Jimmy. Equally as bad....sure. But the possbility exist for him to be better.

Let's face it, if AE was drafted just to be a pure WR or PR guy Carolina reached. Kid was drafted for his talent.......time to at least try to mix him into a game. One pass isn't doing it.

I remember back when we drafted him and the initial threads came out about him playing QB. Zod was all over it like flys on poop. This shows the dismal state of this franchise and team.

I think that Fox believes AE is the best QB he has on the roster but is basically being force fed by Hurney to play Clausen. Just the comment about I guess nobody scouted AE to play QB when he had on the QB7 jersey at the combine. That is vivid poke at the Front Office of this team. Makes you wonder now how many of the conversions on this team at positions have come from the front office.

I agree he couldn't be any worse and might be better simply because he might be able to outrun a few defenders. Perhaps even the coaches feel this way. But I don't think they see any possibility of him being a future starter or even a backup in the NFL, where as with Clausen they do see the potential.

Fwiw, I think the start clausen edict comes from the front office because they want to see if there is any chance at all of him being a starter in the NFL.

I highly doubt that. Whether or not Jimmy Clausen blows chunks, if AE was decent in practice at QB he *would* get more reps...

however, he can't be worse in game than Clausen has been at times, so hey... why not?! ;P

Just the way Fox talks about Clausen shows he has little confidence in him. I think Null and Pierre are just depth in the eyes of Hurney.

But just the comment saying nobody looked at him as a QB is ironic considering how that was all he did at the combine. At the ASU tryouts, he did some WR/PR/KR stuff on pro day, but also did some QB stuff.

And that is different from Clausen how?? I am sure Edwards on a bad day could throw for better than -5 yards in the first half.

Why? Edwards, didnt play at the highest division in college , has spent the enitre year learning WR, and is a rookie. He could be worse, and even if he was better it'd be by such a small amount that it wouldnt matter either way.

BSP and Null suck. So does Clausen. The reality is AE probably is even worse, but I don't think it can hurt to put him on the field more.

Maybe your right.. we know BSP and Null suck, but I sadly think BSP is better than Clausen. Yeah 2 pick 6's in one game blow, but Clausen has 2 on the year to and it only took BSP 28 attempts for 1 TD and it was versus the Ravens. Clausen has played worse defenses and has 1 in 224 attempts.

AE would take less sack yards and I think we'd see less checkdown cause he would just take off. Right now, that is what this line needs. Someone that will survey around and then just make the decision. Clausen pats the quite a bit before he makes his decision and ends up eating more sacks.

I just want this pain to be over with and I don't want to see Clausen start again outside a backup role this year going forward.
