yeah, no one is going to pick that up and that $10mil was paid last year. his total salary for the year was $14mil, but the cap hit was only $7mil. that $10mil hit was spread out.

Thanks, that is what I thought. Even if someone traded for him and they didn't have to prorate all the bonus, it would still make for a pretty big contract at 6-7 million a year.

If we release him now wouldn't he be part of the cap for 2011 and all his guarantee would accelerate. I can't see us taking a huge cap in 2011 if a CBA gets done and the cap gets smaller.

I'm pretty sure bonus money is still to be paid by the original team, and the only salary a trading team would cover is base money... I could be wrong though...

There are drawbacks to signing bonuses for the owner, however. Because the bonus is guaranteed to the player, if the player is released, traded or waived, all of the bonus money that was being prorated throughout the length of the contract is accelerated to the present year.

Yes we would be hit with all the owed guaranteed money remaining on the contract I think.

1) most important- John Fox is GONE after the season, and those two are the ONLY ones with the issue. Not Gamble and Hurney, not Gamble and JR, or anyone else. Fox being gone, means none of this matters.

2) Hes locked up for the next 5 years.
