No GM in league history has been retained after going 1-15

Who was in charge in 1997? I know Hurney was Director of Player Operations in 1998 though or "salary cap manager" as you put it.

In 1997 it was still Bill Polian. He didn't leave till 1998. In the years immediately after Polian, the Panthers didn't have one official GM. After having a bad experience with Polian, Richardson preferred not to have all the power in one person's hands.

Jack Bushofsky was the player personnel guy. Tony Softli ran the college scouting department. Capers also got more sway after Polian and Anile went to the Colts. Hurney's job was only to work on contracts and manage the cap (what Rob Rogers does now). He didn't have any say in player acquisition.

After Capers was gone, as I recall, the same guys stayed in place but Seifert had a fair amount of say in things. It wasn't until 2002 that Richardson was convinced to go the unified GM route again, and he chose Hurney. Bushofsky and the others still stuck around for a short time. Bushofsky left in 2003. Softli bolted for the Rams a few years later and was replaced with Don Gregory. Mark Koncz came on board somewhere in there (early 2000s I think, don't know which year).

What does all this matter guys? You can't fire a GM for doing exactly what you ask him to, regardless if it results in losing. Hell, even if he did fire him, Hurney could sue and get back every penny that Richardson inked to him on that extension in June, which Hurney 100% signed or else he would be working for free right now. Hureny just refuses to make news like that public.

Heres the scenerio. Since they like Clausen. Carolina gets the #1 trades with buffalo, gets the #4 or #5 pick, and Buffalos 2nd. Buffalo is so hard up for a qb and since Luck is a sure thing, I can see them doing it. Or hell if I am carolina, pick luck with the #1, and then trade him to the highest bidder.
1) only getting a 2nd out of the deal automatically makes it one of the worst trades in NFL history. congrats on thinking that up.

2) who would be the QB for the panthers? (this ought to be good)

Y'all know if there was year on Fox' contract he would probably be back next year, right? This year is all on JR, he has taken the blame. Hell from time to time I think he might even offer Fox a new contract.

Why the hell are you trying to give me nightmares right before I go to bed?

1. Not necessarily if we plan to go after someone else other than Luck and if there is someone in the second round that we REALLY want.

2. Cam Newton I suppose, and we get the 2nd rounder to spend on a CB in a supposedly deep CB draft (just restating what I've heard I'm not up on the college game and am trying to do some research in between practice tests and posting on here).

I think Jangler's trolling there.

To be clear, the chances of Fox being back next year are zero, zilch, nada, nothing, null, none.

Even Lloyd Christmas doesn't see any hope of this happening.

A couple of questions to anyone suggesting we trade away Andrew Luck.

Had you been in charge of the Colts in 98, would you have traded away Peyton Manning?

What kind of pick or player package do you think it would take to be worth what Manning has given the Colts?

And if you have such a deal in mind, do you really think anyone is willing to trade you that kind of deal after seeing what happened in the Herschel Walker trade?

or the ricky williams trade or even the ryan leaf trade. all of those trades resulted in fail for the teams getting the multitude of picks.
