Yas: Clausen here to stay, maybe no Luck

Can't help but think of the Texans a few years ago. Everyone said they were crazy to pass on Bush, but in hindsight they made the correct choice. If Hurney passes on Luck, he could be passing on a sure hall of famer, or he could end up drafting the next Ryan Leaf. Bet he wishes he had a crystal ball. :)

Personally, I think that if Luck comes out, Hurney will pick him. To much of a risk not to. And if he doesn't pan out, Clausen will still be on the roster probably.

IF a CBA is signed, and a rookie wage scale is installed in it, and Luck declares, I wouldn't be suprised to see the Panthers trade away the #1 overall for an assload of pcks.

It would be the first #1 pick that was clear-cut and not a HUGE financial burden in about the last 15 years. Someone would probably be willing to give up the farm for it. If it came down to getting Luck and no second or not getting Luck but having the 7th overall and a 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and another 3rd next year, I would take the latter.

you do that and we're no better off than we ever have been. it will just be more of the same. the league turns into more of a passing league and we're stuck year after year after year hoping that someday we'll luck up and find the next kurt warner or tom barday and until then pretending that you don't need an elite QB.

quantity of picks doesn't make up for quality lost by passing on luck.

we can start pretending we are the pats after we get our franchise QB.

You have an interesting point here especially considering that the Patriots already had their franchise QB before picking up Brady. Though I don't think they really managed to get the system running as they have it going now until after the dismissal of Bledsoe.

I know people suggesting we wouldn't pay a #1 QB are being influenced by the whole "going cheap" thing this year and the years of Fox not believing in the "franchise QB" model.

But seriously guys, you have to look at the whole history.

Does nobody remember the contract they gave Kerry Collins his rookie year?

they got a good system with the perfect QB for it and got rich. you become a dynasty by consistently winning and then having everyone coming to you begging for scraps, wanting to get raped by you in trades.

they got lucky in finding brady and the took advantage of the opportunity luck brought them. we're getting lucky this year. opportunity knocks so infrequently it would be foolish to pass up on it now.

*goes to find logic about how Sam Bradford is not good because the NFC west Sucks and because House said so*

Never said that Bradford sucks, but everyone in here points to how "great" he is and how Luck could "turn us around" like Bradford did with the Rams.

When the truth of the matter is that Bradford is a decent QB right now who is playing in EASILY the worst conference in football. With the schedule the Rams have played, if Bradford was as great as people act like he is then that should be a 9-10 win team, easily.

Bradford on the Panthers, would be struggling mightily and we MIGHT have one more win than we do now. That is the truth of the matter.

Regardless of if it is a lost cause or not, Jimmy is not going to grow 3-4 inches, gain 35 lbs, and throw faster than Dan Marino. If we have the first overall pick, I say we trade Jimmy to any team for a 2nd or 3rd round pick, and then keep Moore and Pike.. see what happens, and obv. Draft Luck.

that year they realized the importance of having a good QB to build a new/young team around. had collins not turned into a drunk racist with a crappy work ethic desperately in need of a shrink, we could have turned into a powerhouse for years to come. collins certainly had staying power. we could have been a dyansty. ever since he left, we have been struggling to find that next franchise QB and have been held back because of it. if we want one, we need to go back to the same place we got the first one and hope for different long term results.

Pretty much.

I agree and it is pretty much the same situation when it comes to personnel except for the fact that our O line is better than the rams, our WR core is better than the rams, our Defense could be better with just a couple of additions in a different scheme but the QB situation is in shambles with no leadership and no direction.

Yes luck will not be the end all be all but right now the free agency market for QB next year is horrific and it is not a guarantee that anybody will be willing to trade up to the first pick regardless of rookie salary cap. but on the shiitty rams team with a shiitty division with a shiitty oline and shiitty recievers having 60% comp , with 17 td and 12 int and almost 3000 yards is pretty good for a rookie.
