Drafting running QBs in the NFL is a dumb idea. QBs can't take the punishment on a weekly basis and be considered a franchise player for 10 years or more. McNabb's game evolved tremendously and IMO was still an overrated QB after he stopped running. He was a very good QB when he ran the ball but as soon as he tried to be a pocket QB (last 5 years) his play fell off.

Moral of the story is you have more chance of success when you draft Matt Ryan, Sam Bradford, Joe Flacco, Peyton Manning etc...than when you try to draft the next Mike Vick. Vick is a once in a lifetime player and I'm not taking a chance on trying to draft the next Vick when I can get a guarantee for the next Matt Ryan.

I don't want Cam but the main difference between him and The Golden Calf of Bristol is that Cam can actually throw a football.

We might be looking at this wrong. Getting Cam would NOT be a bad thing, if Luck were not in the draft.

In some ways, this is house money.

He is much more mature and focused than Vince Young. He is much closer to a pocket passer than VY or Freeman coming out of college. Just look at his td throws in the pocket.

He has played tougher D's in the SEC than Luck or Locker.

In fact, with the exception of running, Mallet and Newton are very similar.

Personally I don't think the Panthers would complain if Newton "fell" to them.

As far as The Golden Calf of Bristol: No I wouldn't take him with the #1 overall pick and I wouldn't pick him in the first round at all if it were up to me.

How in the hell do you have Cam and The Golden Calf of Bristol as the same type of QB? Cam is way more athletic than The Golden Calf of Bristol will ever be, plus he's a better passer than The Golden Calf of Bristol will ever be. Cam is a better passer than Young, as well, so I dont see that comparison either. A lot of people in here showing they really dont have a clue on Newton; especially with some of yalls evaluations of him. If you look at what kind of team we are, Cam would be an ideal fit. We run the ball, and our OL is not the best at pass blocking. The Ben Roethelisburger comparisons are pretty spot on, but a lot of you will continue to throw out other black QB's because, "Cam's black, lets compare him to other black QBS!!!!". The funniest comparison is the Newton and Russel one. Cam is nothing like Jamarcus.

Im on the Luck train, I'd rather have Luck here but if Luck was gone or didnt declare, I'd be perfectly fine with Newton.

How many QBs with a similar skill set, along with football IQ, have been successful in the NFL? For every 1 you name, I imagine people could name 5 who busted. He is a high risk pick, one that, if wrong, would cripple the franchise. While he is a stud and a great college player, I see his transition to the NFL much more risky than Luck's.

Brown not having a great year didn't cripple the franchise nor did all the issues that Stewart or Otah have had. No one pick no matter how high cripples a franchise. As for Newton, I will leave it to the football experts to sway me one way or the other. The debate is really just getting started.

Big Ben was a passing QB in college....Newton is a better passer than The Golden Calf of Bristol. However, they both made their mark and plays with their legs....not their arms.
