Those who want Cam Newton First overall...

Calling SEC defenses soft coverage is something few can reach for.

Unless he is trying to refer to said defenses having 8-9 in the box.

But in that case the coverage would have to be tighter to keep from getting burned.

But I digress.

Maybe he meant the CBs play like something from Trgo's system.

I wouldn't know.

Wait... eff me. Are you saying that the post was stupid and you want more stupid posts?

"major risk"

Trusting the Panthers front office when it comes to QBs is a "major risk".

And Kurbie tell our fellow Panther fans to stop "grouping all black QBs together" as the next Jamarcus & Akili. Dudes want to sound stupid and say stupid things, but dont want the stigma and image that comes along with that.

I don't care what color his skin is. He could be red, yellow, purple, green or polka dotted for all I care. He is a tremendous athlete but I do not see him developing into an NFL QB.

Interesting read on Luck and Blackmon's decisions on whether to stay or go

I'm beginning to think that this is what will happen...also, as I call it the next-to-worst case scenario.

Luck stays in school as does Newton, because Luck wants his education and Newton wants another year of working with Malzahn.

Peterson bolts, because hell, what does he have to lose? We get Peterson, fail to address QB.

Worst case scenario? All three stay, we have a lockout, and are forced to pick either Prince Amukamara or Jake Locker. Though I know Nick Fairley is leaving school.

I wonder what his rating would be w/o the 20 rush TD's? thats the real question and thats still against soft cover SEC defenses, the pros will be a wake up call just like all the running qbs. Mcnabb wasnt nearly as affective after he stopped running, Vick is a phenomenon

His passer rating doesn't include rushing TDs so it wouldn't change. It is higher because he has an insanely high YPA of over 10 yards.

As for soft cover SEC defenses, didn't Peyton Manning also play in the SEC at Tennessee?? I believe his brother played at Ole Miss. The list goes on include Joe Namath, Fran Tarkenton, etc. I really don't think that soft coverages or cover 2/3 shells are exclusive to the SEC. As for Vick being a phenomenon, wait until Newton's numbers come out at the combine. He is the next phenomenon.

So what????? You know who else dominated in college?? Jimmy Clausen, Chris Weinke, and Ryan Leaf so who cares. The question on Newton will be do scouts think he can be a pure passer because all that running goes out the window in the nfl. The rushing td's matter b/c what would he of done had he not improvised and run?? interception?? sack??

I think everyone will tell Luck to leave except Harbaugh. And Newton will be coming out if he is projected in the top half of the first round. If neither come out we will likely go with Green or Bowers and go for a veteran and stick with Pickles.

If neither of the QBs come out you don't think we'll go with Peterson?

There a good interview with David Canter an NFL agent about the effects of the CBA situation on the draft http://www.draftcountdown.com/interviews/David-Canter/David-Canter.php

Interesting bit here:

Scott Wright: Could a lockout, or even the threat of one, lead to more underclassmen staying in school rather than going pro this year? If so, why?

David Canter: I think if a player feels he's ready and his family agrees the potential lockout won’t matter. In fact, it could actually lead to more players coming out if they feel like a rookie cap won't come into play until 2012, but I believe that a rookie cap is coming in 2011. If you are ready then the risk of injury or having a bad season (i.e. Jake Locker) is too much of a risk.

Actually NFL scouts will want to know if he can make all the throws. He is not going to be a pure passer but someone who will run and throw much like Freeman. Quarterbacks who can throw as well as run put significant pressure on the defense and cause them to change their plan of attack much like we had to do with Vick. The difference is that Newton won't necessarily go down with the first hit.

As for rushing TDS, they aren't calculated in his passer rating which was the question. And no rushing TDs don't matter, rushing in general might. But it is hard to speculate on what might have happened if he didn't run because he did. And while he might not run as much in the Pros as he is doing in college, to say he won't have that opportunity at all is naive again. There are several guys who either run for positive yards or are elusive enough to buy time in the pocket or make something happen on the run.

So what? That means we would get the best player in the draft (Peterson) to play cb or safety and could go qb next year. Rebuilding a franchise isnt a one year thing and we are gonna be picking from the top 10 for a couple years before we will be a true playoff team again

I think it depends on what coverage we run. If we stay cover 2/3 shell, then he is wasted here since he is a great cover corner. If we went to a man aggressive scheme like Philly, then he would be a great pick-up. Once we have a coach in place it will be easier to speculate.

You're quite obviously grouped into "Panthers fans" and "Dudes who want to sound stupid" since that's just about all you've done.

The first post I made mentioned Ryan Leaf in the same sentence as JaMarcus Russell and the whole maturity spiel. You're not reading posts, you're scanning them, seeing that people mention Young, Russell, and Vick with Newton and then assuming that those people have veiled concerns with Newton's race.

We know he's a Heisman winning QB, so was Leinart, Troy Smith, The Golden Calf of Bristol etc. Being the best college player does not translate into huge success in the NFL.

What exactly do you know about Cam Newton that we don't that makes you think he is going to be a successful NFL QB? Nothing. That's why you're just trolling with these shallow race comments.

............... What I mean when I say pure passer is that the defense can take the run away and he can carry a team through the air because that will happen. making all the throws goes into being a pure passer. Its one thing to be able to thread the needle but to be able to go anywhere on the field is another thing
