Those who want Cam Newton First overall...

The fact he hasnt lost a game and plays better the bigger the game. He's the only QB coming out that you can say that about.

If you want certain things to stay out of this thread Kral, you need to encourage our fellow Panther fans to leave the 1930s stereotypes alone. Panther fans will be Panther fans.

You know, if I didn't know any better I'd say you voted for Obama.

Just a shot in the dark.

I can't make them do anything other than what they want to do. I just ask that between us we keep them out of it.

Fair point in the first paragraph. Research continues...

Rhys,

If Cam Newton works as hard as he needs to I think there is little doubt he will be great. But as you sort of say it is difficult to judge if any player is ever going to do that. Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, and everyone else included.

I think if he were white, no one would worry about his work ethic or cerebral ablility. Or if he's gonna spend all our money on fried chicken and booze if we draft him. Just Panther fans being Panther fans. And not a single person will confront Rhys for it. He speaks for us. No one's asking these questions about Luck, and he's the guy who's actually lost a game. No one prepares harder than Cam Newton. No QB out there is more equipped to dealing with pressure and adversity than Cam Newton. I havent seen or heard anything to make me believe Andrew Luck will thrive in an adverse situation without Jim Harbrough leading him. How do we know this kid will be the same QB without him? We dont.

So what if he does decide to spend his money on fried chicken and booze?

If I get my hands on 30 million dollars, fried chicken and booze better watch the fug out.

Here is what I know about Cam.

He was scouted by Florida to be the next The Golden Calf of Bristol.

He wasn't going to get his chances there so he was went to a D3 or whatever school and led them to their version of a national Championship. He was willing to leave a program like Florida and go to this nowhere for a chance to compete.

He then went to Auburn, he said it was because it was close to home and a better fit, some say it was because they paid better. No one really knows.

At Auburn he beat out lesser QB's and took the starting job.

He has been a team leader all season.

He has kept his head held high even through the NCAA investigation.

His play IMPROVED under the pressure of the NCAA investigation.

He is the best COLLEGE QB in the Nation right now. (not NFL, but college).

He has swagger, athletic ability, a fast release, accuracy, excellent mobility, high level of competitive spirit and has never come off as lazy, arrogant, and/or Jamarcus Russell like.

He also has a reception for a touchdown out of the wildcat formation and that is a level of badass we rarely see.

All that said.

He didn't play in a pro-style offense.

Much of his passing came again Defenses with 8-9 in the box to stop his run threat.

He made a couple of ignorant mistakes in college.

And, all signs indicate he will need to be coached into NFL level ball.

However, he appears to have the ability, drive, work ethic, etc that everyone is questioning so much. Just like every other rookie Qb has appeared to have.

Also I have been to Alabama and I would be more than happy to tell any of them what I just said, at any kind of party.

well, Luck simply isn't using raw athletic ability to run over and around people. Even white guys like The Golden Calf of Bristol....the fact a large part of what made them thrive in college simply does come up when talking about the NFL....b/c it doesn't work at the next level. Skins color has nothing to do with that logic.

also, no one is asking about Luck's cerebral ability b/c he is playing at Stanford and not the University of SC.

No one is asking about Luck's cerebral ability b/c he was coached by a former NFL QB.

Anyone that asks about Cam's cerebral ability needs to realize he has learned 3 different offenses in his college career. One, however, was at a lower level of competition. The other was at the highest level of competition in college. He has been deadly effective in both instances.

I know you addressed this to KT but if this turns out to be the case then I guess Cam just wouldn't be who some hoped he would be by not living up to his potential.

There are lots of players that end up this way.

Luck doesnt have alot "raw athletic ability". If he did, he'd use it. And more than likely his team would not have lost a game because of it. Which is part of the problem for the QBs we already have. They're asked to rely on their "smarts" SOLELY and end up getting crushed in the pocket each week for it.

Even white guys like The Golden Calf of Bristol....the fact a large part of what made them thrive in college simply does come up when talking about the NFL....b/c it doesn't work at the next level. Skins color has nothing to do with that logic.

skin color has everything to do with why certain guys get asked questions about work ethic and commitment. And other QBs are naturally assumed to have it. Nothing new to see here. Panther fans being Panther fans. Par for the course.

also, no one is asking about Luck's cerebral ability b/c he is playing at Stanford and not the University of SC.

No one asked about Clausens either. In fact it was used as his selling point as is all our QBs. It damn sure aint their "raw athletic ability". Trust if they could have some, Luck and Clausen would gladly like to have some of that "raw ahtletic ability" to use in their games. It would make them better QBs, hell might even make opposing fans want to watch them play.

Don't get me wrong I'd still want to whip some ass on the football field and bring home that trophy.

there is a lot of similarity in the FL and Aub offenses he learned. Both put on emphasis on the QB being more of an athlete than traditional QB. College is known for those type QBs......therefore it is only fair to say there are some questions b/c of it.

I like Cam. I didn't like Clausen coming out. If Luck doesn't come out or we don't get the #1 pick I am fine w/ Cam. However, they better go get a vet QB with 8-10 years experience on the roster (and I ain't talking BSP years).

I don't think we should look at a QB being more athletic than others as a negative in any way despite how the college game can use that to a greater advantage than it can be used in the NFL.

Kurb,

Do you think Cam has the charisma and ability to back up his words that would enable him to lead and motivate a group of veterans to be greater than the sum of the parts of the football team?

Look at Auburn's roster and tell me.

He makes that team 100% better than it should be.
