Smitty closed door meeting with Richardson

I don't, but the Panthers very well could...

Nah, teams aren't that dumb when it comes to the OL. OL is playing poorly b/c it is makeshift and good OL play is about communication/teamwork. Kalil will probably be the main priority.

We let our solid RG go with no problems, and look where it got us...

I hope they learned from that mistake...

A friend just texted me. Told me that on WFNZ they are talking about how Smitty had a closed door meeting with Richardson today asking for a trade......:

It was a closed door meeting... nobody really knows what it was about, not even Davis. If I had to guess, it think it was probably more along the lines of "what is going on, where is this franchise heading, and IF you dont get a legit QB in here - then I would rather be traded."

This severely depresses me as I would love to see him retire here

Do they?

We're Panther fans. We see Smitty, a man among boys.

Outside, more objective minds may see a guy on the wrong side of thirty with two major injuries in two years, a severe drop-off in production (some might even say effort) and a history of being a bad boy who can't always keep his mouth shut (or his fists unclenched).

Fair or not, if Marty Hurney tries to swing a trade, those are the things they'll bring up when it's time to talk about compensation and market value.

You can't look at him through Panther fan eyes and be realistic.

well, Smitty is what he is.....he is on the wrong side of 30. Smitty would be ideal for a team looking for a tad more firepower to win. He really serves no purpose here as we rebuild......teams serious about winning will want him.

the drop off isn't that severe. QB plays has been horrfic for him. Look at his string of games he has with Moore at the end of last year and through week 2 this year. Production was good. And that was the best QB play he saw in the 2 yr window.

I agree some people think these trade values are inflated, the league is all about getting younger now, smith would probably bring us a 5th, williams a 3rd at best. Keep dreaming if you think someone would trade a 1st for a RB that is always hurt, or a 2nd for a WR over 30

There is no way you trade Smitty for a 5th round pick, and I am not saying you are wrong in thinking thats is all the Panthers could get. I am not in favor of trading him anyway, but even an aging Smith is better than anybody you are going to get with a later round pick.

I think Smith can definately produce in a good offense, and can be one of those guys that does so on some level for many more years.

Randy moss was traded for a decent pick and he is a turd player on top of a quitter.

Still if Smith feels this way after just one down year it kinda speaks of what type player he is. Moose had a bunch of crappy years with us and still stuck around till his contract was up.

Try several

I agree though. Smith is a diva

I honestly think Smith could still be happy here. I find it unlikely he went to JR to demand a trade right now, because that accomplishes nothing. More than likely, he went to JR because he knows spouting off in the media does nothing.

He may say he wants to be on a contender next year, and I wouldn't blame him. On the other hand, JR may be able to convince him that enough of a change is coming, his twilight years could be good to spend here... but I'm not so sure of that.

EDIT: Moss is a physically gifted player that often does not make the most of his gifts. He was also traded to an absolutely DESPERATE team that wanted a big receiver.

The problem is, Moss has more trade value than Smith in all likelihood. =|
