Qualities of an NFL Quarterback

I didn't say I knew Cam. I just said it's unlikely that he didn't know about his father's activities and from the things that happened with him in the past they seem to line up.

I think he likely did but honestly it matters nothing to me. I really don't think it is a bad thing at all considering what these players get the schools.

It was a poor post and frankly I expect more from such an educated observer as yourself, who is never wrong.

Tell me one time I've been wrong. I'll recap for you and you can tell me which one has been wrong.

In no particular order:

Clausen will bring this team more embarassment than production

Moore would start against SF

Smitty doesn't like Clausen

Smitty would return against SF if Moore was starting

Clausen didn't take the benching well

Fox doesn't like Clausen

Yet to be determined:

Moore will be back next year.

That's a whole different issue. They get paid plenty of money in their stipends and get hooked up at local stores, restaurants, bars etc. Asking for 180 grand cash is serious. Couple that with his past and it's just a red flag, that's all.

Here's the real question.

Would you start Cam day 1 or would you start Luck day 1?

I don't see Cam adjusting to a pro style offense until midway through the season. Dropping back to pass is MUCH harder than it looks. And unless you guys want Jimmy in for 3-8 weeks again (who knows he might win a couple games).. well.. go for it. I just don't see us taking Cam with the #1 overall. He has all the tools, he's just not NFL ready and with the #1 you need someone who is planning on starting right away.

Plenty of money in stipends is both debatable and subjective.

Hook-ups are not the business of the school.

180 grand is worth it for a player that carried the school to the BCS championship is it not? These athletes (like Newton) generate ridiculous income for the school and fairness is not the most important or generally that large an aspect in business of this level.

The rules are the rules while playing for the NCAA but as far as acquiring him as a professional athlete his breaking those rules is irrelevant and doesn't disparage his character in my view in the slightest.

I don't know how smart Newton is but it isn't impossible that he would be better at it than any other QB on our roster by the end of preseason.

Tell me one time I've been wrong.

So I was driving to work this morning and I started to think about this season. Then I started thinking about this schedule we have. Some say its easy some say its not so easy but that's besides the point. After watching ESPN slobber all over the Ravens during our last preseason game I thought "Man, how awesome is it going to be when we meet in week 11 and WIN!" How are they (ESPN and other "Experts") going to handle that? Some no name team that is rebuilding beat their Superbowl favorite, it can't be!

Some of you will laugh and say we are going to win 6 games but we are going to be DAMN good. We will surprise people and when we do I hope someone calls out those "experts" for not knowing their stuff. It would make my LIFE if ESPN wanted to interview one of our players and when they got on the air just put ESPN on front street for not knowing anything about the Panthers.

I cannot wait until week 1.

We're still waiting for Matt Moore to lead us to the promised land.

Of course its wrong, but its still a character flaw seeing as how the majority of student athlete can survive without the money and show their character. I would support any action to get student athletes paid but to say someone flagrantly going against set rules isn't in possession of a character flaw is a crime in of itself.

And with Cam Newton, he is nothing more than a Vince Young clone. You can cry all you want about his comeback wins, Vince Young did the same. His long balls are awful and a by product of the system he plays in. He runs around like Micheal Vick, but he doesn't have anywhere near the speed Micheal Vick has.

QB's that come out of a school like Texas Tech all come from the system despite their massive stat totals, and are ignored. Give one of them the legs of Josh Freeman and you have a replica of Cam Newton. The team that picks him might as well call the Raiders and Titans and ask them how their experiments worked out.

Oh and Freeman had accuracy, arm strength, and decision making coming out of college, there were questions about how he would pick up the playbook, but little else, so he had the tools. Sadly, Newton does not.

Im black btw.
