Qualities of an NFL Quarterback

My only concern with Cam is that I wouldn't spend the top pick on him. He should go around 10, but a lot changes between now and April. Just too many uncertains, too many questions. Luck has them too, but what I am unwilling to say to that HOUSE character who just wants to argue as if he knows more than all of the NFL scouts who are singing his praises, is he has many of the same peices the great ones have had. Perhaps unfairly, I associate Newton to QBs that have not succeeded based on stereotyping. Not fair at all--Newton is a special player. I just want to see him in a pro situation. I can see Luck more clearly.

I would gladly draft Cam Newton as our next QB. Im just saying I would pick luck over him. Problem like House is saying is we need to shore up the OL and have some playmakers for any of those QBs to have a chance.

This. I would have no problem taking Newton... I just think that if we have the #1 pick and if Luck comes out, he's the guy. If we don't get the #1, or if Luck doesn't come out, we've GOT to do something at QB and Newton would be the guy.

I guess you should ask the question like this: Would you rather have Luck or would you rather have Newton and more picks? Let's say we get the top pick and Arizona picks sixth and they want Luck. According to the trade value chart, the difference would get us thier first and second this year and their first next season for the right to take Luck. That would mean we could draft Mallet or Newton and have a future first and the second rounder we lost for Armanti. However, Arizona is desperate for a QB and a player like Luck will certainly up the ante.

I think there will be tremendous pressure on the Panthers whatever they do. Trade down and Luck becomes a star, they will be laughing stocks, even if they draft Newton and he is above average. Pick him, people expect John Elway II from a guy who would be a Junior in college if he had stayed.

I guess we should call Bill Cowher and ask him what he plans to do with the first pick if the team that hires him happens to get it. Then we should call Marty Hurney and tell him how Cowher likes his coffee so he will know what to do during the draft.

People who have criticized him for lack of intelligence don't know him. Cam and I have several mutual friends and the times I've talked to Cam he's no idiot. No genius, but no idiot. Character? You'd be better off dissing Cecil's, not Cam's. Cam made what can only be described as an immature, stupid decision when he was at Florida. Just idiotic. Doesn't make him an idiot though.

I think I'll pass on any QB you know and like on a personal level. If you think Cam wasn't trying to get a piece of that cash than you are more delusional than I thought. Cam has this money hungry attitude about him that scares the hell out of me. Couple that with the fact that his style of play rarely translates to the NFL and I'll take a pass.

1. Leadership: Do men follow him? Does he lead by example? Do people listen to him and trust him? Does he know how to handle celebrity? Does he say the right things to the press? (Peyton Manning, Joe Montana)

2. Arm Strength: Can he make all of the throws and get the ball there quickly? Does he have a touch as well? (John Elway)

3. Quick Release: How long does it take to get rid of the pass after the decision has been made? (Dan Marino)

4. Decsion Making: Can he read the defense? Does he find the open WR? Does he go through his progressions without taking sacks? (Tom Brady, Marino)

5. Instinct: Does he feel pressure and instinctively step out of harm's way without panic? Does he know when throw it away and know when to run? Is he always aware of the game situation and the game plan? (Brees, Elway, Montana).

6. Accuracy: Does the hit the reciever in stride? Does he throw them open? Can he place the deep ball where only his teammate can catch it? (Brady, Drew Brees)

7. Intelligence: Does he study film and does it carry over to the game? Does he know his team's limitations and strengths? Does he know the playbook and what everyone is doing on every play? (Manning)

8. Mobility: Is he always a threat to get a first down by running the ball? Does he have good speed? (Michael Vick)

9. Toughness: Can he take a beating and continue to play at a high level? Does he have the size he needs to take the beating? (Brett Favre)

10. Character: Is he a symbol of what men should be? (Brees, Manning, Montana)

How often do college players come out with characteristics that draw comparisions to the great ones in every aspect of the ideal QB? Luck has, and he may just be the most complete talent to come out since Elway. However, not any of the QBs listed above possessed ALL of these attributes, except maybe Elway. I am sure some of you disagree, but the best teams in the NFL have great QBs. Although Luck is not proven, he is our best chance to have a great QB.

Cam Newton fans: This should expose why he will not be a great NFL QB.

doesnt matter what offense he comes from? doesnt matter what level of competition he played in college?

hell, besides the part about size, this sounds exactly like armanti edwards' player profile word for word.

Fortunately the team cares 0% about your opinion of people I know, or of me. And as it were, I don't care about your opinion either. Lucky me.

But since you're out in California I'm sure you'd know Cam much better.

I didn't say I knew Cam. I just said it's unlikely that he didn't know about his father's activities and from the things that happened with him in the past they seem to line up.
