I never said anything about letting Fox go... Gantt reported a few days ago that it wouldn't be surprising if they try to go for a young assistant or a young defensive coordinator who would likely take the reigns after Fox decides to step down.

Consider this, Fox has two years left on his contract and if would not surprise me one bit if he was to step down as head coach. He has been in the league for a while as both a defensive assistant and coordinator and he has obviously been a head coach.

I am aware that most of this is speculation but that doesn't mean it is out of question. I feel there is a youth movement amongst coaches.

Look at Mike Tomlin, in his first superbowl at age what? 34? 35? 36? Something along that lines.

Once again, believe what you want, I will believe what I want but until Fox's contract gets an extension then I still believe that we are searching for, what Gantt calls, a "heir apparent"

Youth movement does not mean they will be successful. Mike Tomlin inherited a good team. John Harbaugh inherited a top defense and his offense didn't play any better than when Billick was there. There is no correlation between youth and success.

Using Tomlin's case to generalize isn't a good way to justify getting younger in the coaching dept.

Fox has shown no reason to leave and he is the winningest coach in our short history. As long as Big Cat is owner I expect Fox will have a job unless the Panthers fortunes drastically change or Fox decides to quit.

Going 8-0 at home regardless of the ultimate outcome in the playoffs goes a long way to making an owner very happy. Especially after a 2-6 home record the year before. Most teams who fire a head coach for poor performance don't hire from within they look outside. So if he looks for an heir apparent it will be after a successful run with the current staff and there is already one guy here- Davidson. There may be more after the defensive staff gets fleshed out.
