Strength of Schedule Breakdown

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

So, let me get this straight.

Assume we lose vs Pittsburgh and beat Atlanta:

Detroit and Buffalo are eliminated, So it is basically a 3-horse race.

Cincinnati is leading the SOS going into the final two weeks and they have games they are unlikely to win.

Denver has the weakest schedule and will likely have a weaker schedule that the Panthers at season's end.

If Denver somehow beats Oakland tonight or can win one of their last two games at home, then our only competition is Cincinnati.

Question: If New Orleans beats Atlanta next week, they would be one game behind Atlanta. They would be split in the regular season. Who wins the tie breaker if the Panthers were to win the last game? In other words, would they have to play starters vs. the Panthers?

Wait, we wanted the Rams to win over the Chiefs? Why? We played the Rams, we should be happy they lost.

Fixing it (doh!) :(

Given that I finished that original post at 5am, it's a wonder I didn't get more of them backwards

Updated for the afternoon results...

Panthers - .570

Bengals - .583

Broncos - .518

(playing against the NFC West makes the Broncos SoS pretty much out of reach)

Steelers count twice against the Bengals, once against us. Better if they win.

I will if they lose.

Actually sir that was incorrect about the steelers.... That game was a wash in terms of our SoS vs Cincy's.

Cincy also played the Jets.... So if the Jets win they add 1 win we add 0 which is a pickup of one. Had the steelers won they would have added 2 wins, we would have added 1 which is still a pickup of 1.

There were a few of those games today where the outcome did not matter in terms of SoS.

We have to hope for a Saints win next week then? Falcons will be resting starters you'd think in week 17 if they win.

That is correct...

Saints win = Falcons have a VERY meaningful game against us week 17 with the division, homefield advantage, and a first round bye on the line.

Falcons win= Everything clinch and nothing to play for against us week 17.

Not that there's any real chance of catching them, but if you want the Broncos SoS to go up, here's what you need.

WEEK 16:

Ravens over Browns (wash for the Bengals, but hurts the Broncos)

Seahawks over Bucs (double-whammy; lowers us, increases them)

Jaguars over Redskins

Chiefs over Titans (divisional factor)

Jets over Bears (also helps against the Bengals)

WEEK 17:

Colts over Titans (also on the Bengals)

Jets over Bills (wash for the Bengals)

Obviously, you want to cheer for the Broncos against the Texans and Chargers, but if they lose those games their SoS goes up (double whammy for the Chargers game).

The Chargers play the Bengals in week 16. A Chargers win doubles up on the Broncos, but also keeps the Bengals within a game of us. Similar deal when the Ravens and Bengals play in week 17, but a Bengal loss there does double-whammy Cincinnati's SoS.

Colts-Raiders next week hurts the Bengals if the Colts win, but doubles up the Broncos if the Raiders win.

Cardinals-Cowboys in week 16 is a wash in this matchup since it ups their SoS, but also ours. So are the Rams-49ers game in week 16 and the Chiefs-Raiders, Rams-Seahawks, 49ers-Cardinals and Texans-Jaguars games in week 17 because in each of those games, both teams have played the Broncos.

Oy :sosp:
