I'm a huge nerd also and this is the only thing I noticed that was incorrect or misleading. The Ravens saints game has no effect in giving the Falcons breathing room in terms of resting starters week 17... the only game that matters is the falcons saints game...

Currently the saints have 1 loss in the division (to the falcons) and are 10-3, The falcons have no loss in the division and it (11-2). Even if the the saints lose next week it will come down to their week 16 matchup.

If the saints lose to the ravens but beats the falcons and the falcons also beats the seahawks the saints will be 11-4 going into the last week and the falcons would be 12-3. They would both have 1 loss in the division and be playing a division opponent. Which means the falcons will have a lot to play for week 17!!! Because if they lose to us, and the saints beat the falcons the saints will then own the divisional tie breaker and win the division at 12-4.

And if Atlanta Beats the saints week 15 they clinch the division no matter what happens in their other remaining games.

So the meaning of all this.... If you want to cheer for our best chances of getting the #1 pick.... Hope the saints beat the Falcons!!!!!

So going back to SOS tiebreakers the saints losing to the Ravens is more beneficial to us, with no downside.

The Saints-Falcons game is definitely the most important divisionally speaking, but I wouldn't discount the Saints-Ravens. We want them being pushed till the last. Being a divisional game, it's a wash for us in the math, of course.

Correct that those two are indeed "double whammys" as they weaken our SoS but strengthen the Bengals.

let's just not win anymore then I don't have to worry about doing math

Everyone except the players, coaches and the world's greatest math nerds would agree with you on this.

Unfortunately, we might have to look to the math. That's why I want to know what helps and what hurts.

We have a legit shot at winning 2. Arizona sucks in a division that sucks. They are the Panthers of the West. The winner will be the team that sucks the least on that day. Our running game is better. We should win. I am not sure we can beat Atlanta's bench, however.

On the other hand, the Browns are traveling to Cincy. Bengal nation will rise to the occasion and turn back their in-state foe. It is written.

I wish we would just sit everybody, not win another game, and not have to worry about losing the #1 pick.

Fox wants to win now to stick the first pick up JRs chute. I remember when the Colts won on the last game of the season to lose out to Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay drafted the franchise QB--Vinnie Testaverde

or we could just lose to Arizona and the Bengals beat the Browns

if this happened, all we would have to do would lose to the Steelers, which is almost a guarantee, and the first pick is ours. We could also root for us to beat the Falcons in the last week! win win for everyone

Football gods, please let this happen!

f**k the NFL making the draft tiebreaking procedure too BCS-like.

2 teams are tied you always go head to head. Freakin NFL

It made sense to somebody, I guess.

The NFL uses head-to-head in its other tiebreakers. Why they left it out of this one is beyond me.

I'm trying to recall the last time it had to be applied though. Likely I'll have to look it up. In most years, there's been one team that's had the worst record, and one alone.
