Fox: Clausen will remain Panthers QB

Insert a better RG/RT and everyone would appear to be better, too.

When I said "tag" I mean the one-year tag, not a franchise tag. I use the term "franchise" for that but to each his own.

Regardless at the beginning of both seasons the brass came out and said "Jake's our guy." then "Matt's our guy."

2011: "Tarvaris's our guy."

i don't agree with that at all..i do think that there are some rookies who can come in and take over from the start (sam bradford, mark sanchez ect..) but there are also qb's who need to sit and learn. Jimmy obvioulsy can't handle being thrown in right away but that dosn't mean he'll never be a good quarterback. He just looks overwhelmed on every play, that means you take him out, let him get more comfortable, put in a veteran who can hold it down, not neccissarily drop bombs, just throw it to steve smith and hand it off..it could only help jimmy clausen as a qb. the guy has everything going against him. The oline is playing terrible which, along with injuries, has stalled the running game causing us to turn to jimmy early and he's throwing to a bunch of rookies and steve smith who is admittidly playing terrible. Im just sayin, troy aikman went 1-11 his first year. keep jimmy around, bring in a solid veteran, get oline help in the draft, get deangelo back, they all have full year under their belt.

Yeah so did Chris Weinke ( went 1-15 too). No guarantee that Clausen progresses or ever becomes a starter. In fact history is against him. But he will be here for a few years and will get his chances . There is liitle doubt we bring in a veteran and likely another draft pick. If Clausen develops then great but I doubt everyone will be putting too many eggs in that basket or waiting around for it to happen. The best part is that he was relatively cheap and no one feels compelled to play him based on the amount the team invested in him.

There are 2 tags- a franchise tag and a transition tag- 2 designations- exclusive or non-exclusive. Tender offers are not the same as tag offers and involve different obligations and compensation. I know it is confusing and the average fan uses them interchangeably so no big deal.

Insert a better quarterback and the whole line would look better. Anyone can play that game.

As for who is the guy or not, the coach used to have the biggest say about who they want or typically several guys who would work in their system. The FO then sees who is available and tries to negotiate a contract. It is a group process except for this year when I think the FO did run the show. I am sure who we choose as the next coach will be largely determined by how much power they want are are given moreso than money.

Most teams passed on him because QB wasn't a need for them. It was for us. Only teams who really PASSED were MIN/ARI.

i disagree, look through the draft this year and you honestly tell me that with all the picks the 49ers, seahawks, cardinals, browns and bills had that nobody needed a "top 10 pick" qb? I call BS!:icon_bs:

He did have bust written all over him, some people need to just accept the facts that we drafted a f**king lemon

49ers - Smith duo

Seahawks - Hasselbeck

Cards - Anderson

Browns - Delhomme

Bills - anybody's guess

Most of those teams could have used an upgrade, but decided against Clausen and McCoy early on.

yeh, i agree with everything you just said, the chances of success for jimmy clausen are greatly increased next season. If we do have a season in 2011 then we should make a pretty big splash in free agency due to the amount of money weve saved from releasing pretty much half of our team. We should get everyone back healthy but we were also supposed to get jeff otah back by the third game of the season.

I'm pretty sure there is a deadline to declare.

If luck doesn't declare, it won't be cause of the cba.

Not the only reason, but a consideration. These guys don't get paid if there is no football, and owners aren't going to hand out 25 mill + in signing bonus to rookies until they know there will be games.
