Couple things about bowers.  Yeah he had an absolute insane year.   But he is faster then warren and has really good route running skills to go with it.  Something that warren gets knocked for.  Plus Bowers was targeted 153 times, 9 per game which is slightly outside of the top 10 in the nfl.   Not saying he isnt good, because he is outstanding but sometimes you have to put things in perspective when comparing other players.

Brock Bowers was 6’3” at the combine. Laporta as well. That’s not on the plus end of TE size. As far as what Warren brings that some haven’t. He’s prototype in nearly every box. Still I think you go the other way in the top 10, but someone gets a 10 year plus starter in all likelihood. Anyone can flat out bust, but you are having to project way less with Warren than others we’ve been talking about.

If I’m putting myself in a team’s shoes - you’re looking at these prospects and Warren hits most boxes for a TE with a plus on most. So yeah, he’s a great prospect, no doubt, 1st round talent as a TE.

But when I look at him through the lens of that PSU offense, they were running so much through him, I’m not so sure it was beneficial to seeing how he translates.  They were getting him open in the flat, running weird trick plays, and designed a lot of ways to find him on delayed seam routes and such. So a lot was structured around getting him the ball in creative ways to advance the ball, in steady sequences, methodically down the field. 

Thing is, yeah he’s catching a ton, is big, and can block, but throw him into an NFL offense in a more traditional sense, he’s gonna be stickied by speedy LBs and big nickels. I just wonder how he is in a more isolated fashion— when he’s just a piece of a greater NFL offense getting shadowed by more talented defenders. I think it could still be great but I have question marks when it’s at the TE position. Will he look no different than other very solid TEs or is he this offensive centerpiece at the position that doesn’t come along often (Bowers, Gronk, Kelce, Witten, TG, etc)?

I think he brings a ton and could be one of the safer TE prospects, but what I’m unsure about is if you’re really getting this new age Witten type people are crowning him as. Even if that’s the case, is that worth it? If he wasn’t in PSU’s Franklin/Allar offense, would you be seeing the same output? 

More questions than anything - I could get on board with it, but it’s hard for me to really project because of how that offense was (which was so frustrating at times).

They played some good teams but they also played a lot of pee wee college defenses too.  Warren won't be that open in the NFL.  Although credit where it's due, he did make some contested catches against good coverage.

Plus Canales hasnt shown that he utilizes the TE is the number 1 or even 2 or even 3rd option.  Sanders was open a lot last year caught over 70% of his targets and Bryce wasn't even looking in his direction a lot. We take this guy at 8 and he gets 600 yards and 6 tds a season, are we okay with that?

The past 20 years of draft history for 1st round TEs is very clear- avoid
