2011 NFL Draft Prospects Thread

My Top 10 players, plus some facts i've noticed about each player ;)

1. Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

Goes extremely well through progressions. Tends to float the deep ball.

2. AJ Green, WR, Georgia

Really fluid receiver with great hands. Looks skinny IMHO.

3. Marcel Dareus, DE, Alabama

Very fluid athlete for a guy with his height, offers some versatility, uses his hands very well. Lacks size.

4. Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

Terrell Owens-esque body, outstanding blocker, great hands improved route runner. Raw, will make the tough catch and then drop an easy one (i thinks this has more to do with lack of concentration)..

5. DaQuan Bowers, DE, Clemson

Will support the run, knows how to disengage from blocks, very fluid athlete for a guy with his height. If an OL put both hands on his pads he doesn't do much, work ethic concerns?.

6. Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

Once in a decade type of athlete, nice ball skills, great returner. Should be better in the run game considering his size.

7. Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn

Impressive first step, knows how to disengage from blocks and will find a way to get to the ball. Work ethic concerns? Dirty player?.

8. Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue

Relentless player with a non-stop motor, will support the run, nut a pure speed rusher but has the quickness to get to the QB. Not a great athlete.

9. Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas

Cannon arm (probably best arm in the NFL right now), will find the mismatch. Very raw, poor footwork, QB-friendly-system, work ethic concerns?.

10. Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State

Great size, outstanding pass blocker (very fluid & quick), good (not great) run blocker. Lacks killer instincts, lacks strength.

1 thing wrong I see with that ^

Marcell Dareus is 6'4, 305 lbs...how is that lack of size?

To me he's more likely 6'2 on TV. Weight is fine to me, he moves extremely well...

Check out this photo (from 2009, though). Luther Davis is further from the camera and seems taller than Dareus, and Davis is listed as 6'3.

We'll see at the Combine, though.

A guy who might be worth a late round flier is USC Center Kristofer O'Dowd. Yes we have Ryan Kalil but O'Dowd is extremely versatile. Many scouting reports on the kid suggest that he will get some looks at guard in the NFL and he filled in at guard for SC on numerous occasions. Most importantly the kid is a football junkie, he loves the game and works as hard as possible to be successful. He is an athletic kid and really loves to get down field and block on running plays so I think he would be great for a pulling guard. He needs to improve his strength a bit but all that takes is more reps in the weightroom....

I only have one thing to say about the upcoming draft for Carolina.. Jimmy Clausen was good in college, but is not a competitive QB in the NFL. The Panthers need to take Cam Newton from Auburn with their 1st overall pick. His precision, elusiveness and strength all combine to make a monster of a QB that the Panthers have never had before. Andrew Luck may be a great fit also, but after watching Cam Newton play this season and in the BCS Nat'l Championship, his consistancy and composure along with the rest of his skill set is something the Panthers should consider cashing the 1st overall pick in on. Newton is the weapon that the panthers have been missing.

Quan Sturdivant

Strengths: Sure tackler, range, good instincts, coverage skills, can get into opponents backfield, versatile.

Weaknesses: Character issues

if character issues is his only knock then we def need to get him bc he is a straight up man.....he will not cause any problems...went to high school with him hung out a lot he is a great guy and we could use him....but prolly going to go in the low second round so doubt we can get him.....but he def does not have character issues

    • I don't really like the phrase, "moral victory". I get what's meant by it, but does that mean that if you do the opposite (play poorly but win) it's an immoral victory? 🤔
    • I blame Evero because he is overrated. Vance Joseph created the defense in Denver that he took credit for. Wilks ran the ball down his throat and Darnold had a 103.8 rtg.  Last year we were decent in yards allowed, and horrible in everything else. Only reason? We kept giving up good field position.  He's had his choice of players to bring in since his scheme is so "complicated." Maybe he should stop trying to be so fancy like running Cover 4 on 3rd and 1 earlier and focus on fundamentals like tackling. These years of Eric Washington, Phil Snow, and Evero must have gotten you confused on what a real defense looked like. Go back and watch the McDermott and Wilks years- this dude is sofT.
    • I tried to make it a point in the opening post that I don't think the offense is a finished product. I think we still need more talent at WR, better play calling, catch more consistently, elimate ridiculous penalties,  and be more consistency in scoring points. I'm just saying, they look markedly better than last year imo. They have scored 20 or more in 6 games and 30 or more in 2 games. And that's particularly notable considering they only mustered 10 points and 3 points in first 2 games of this year and they got blanked on 0 points two games in a row to wrap up last season . I'd say that's a market improvement.  I'm not crowning them and saying we have a top 10 offense or anything.  I'm comparing them to themselves in recent history.
