Official 2011 Carolina Panthers Free Agency Thread

Trying to temper the dreaming and stay realistic, I would do this.

Draft Wise:

Trade Down to save cap room for FA. We can't build through the draft with 1 pick in the first two rounds anyway.

Draft Prince Amukamara, DT, OT, TE, WR, and depth. In that order.

Let Marshall walk.

Try to trade Williams but let walk if you can.

Big name or High priced guys:

C Ryan Kalil - when all the variables are in play he's the best center in the league behind Nick Mangold

OG Davin Joseph - Lets use this cap room offensively. Weaken the Division opponent above us while strengthening the opponent below. We need to attack our problems hard if we want to compete in this division.

MLB Jon Beason(extension) - Jon Beason is the heart and soul of the defense and deserves a deal simmilar to Patrick Willis. Reward him with the security of a long term 7-8 year extension. Don't let his contract run out and franchise him that is no good.

Matt Hasselbeck - We have 1 pick out of the first 64 and that will not do. Putting another rookie QB out there with the same personnel will net the same results. Set the team up with a vet QB, trade up for a franchise QB next year if you please. His contract shouldn't be ridiculous.

Zach Miller - Rivera wants a well rounded tight end so this is the guy to go after. He played against him in San Diego twice a year so he should be familiar with him.

Aubrayo Franklin - get a big NT for those 3-4 packages and to anchor the line in a 4-3. We could possibly get him in a package deal if the 49ers want to trade up.

Reasonable Contracts:

Charles Johnson: He's good, but how good? Sign him to something reasonable with escalators.

James Anderson: Again, he's good but I'm not quite sure how good. He stands out in a year with no defensive linemen to take away from his production. Not quite sure he's elite but he would be a great piece to stay here.

Thomas Davis: Could have been elite but he's torn his ACL too many times. Sign an incentive laden deal 2-3 years and see how he pans out.

Leon Washington: With Williams gone we need to add depth. Take Goodson and Cap'n off ST duty as well. They are coming into their own and they are too valuable to be on ST.

Barry Coefield: More than solid DT that would give a rotation worthy of the other corps on the team.

Mark Anderson: Former DE that played under Rivera should be solid in rotation.

Possibly resign King for blocking and that should be it!:hurray:

EDIT: Damn I didn't notice how in tune I was with the rest of the posters. Good job, collective thinking will net us the reward!

Mark Anderson: Former DE that played under Rivera should be solid in rotation.

Mark Anderson.

I've been singing this tune for years, Mark would be an excellent addition to the Panthers 4-3. Give us a solid NT and he'll look like Tuck.

I don't see how we can trade down. I would love to. I was one of the few willing to part with the LUCK for multiple picks. But Gabbert, Cam, and Mallett are not gonna bring the same offers.

So i think we are stuck at numero uno. I think with the impending CBA this is gonna be a odd offseason. I doubt we sign folks as quickly in FA. But in FA i would love to see.

TE- Marcedes Lewis. Lewis and Zach Miller are the top TE FA's. Both are balanced TE's that block and can be top receivers.

QB- Alex Smith. Many are gonna hate on this guy but i really think he needs a change of scenery. The guy has had a revolving door of OC's and QB coaches. IF we sign Chud as our OC Lewis and Smith could be a very potent combo.

DT- Barry Coefield. A young mainstay on the Giants Dline. We went out and stole the top DC to be our new HC. Why not steal one of the DT's in one of the best 4-3 dlines in football.

WR- James Jones. The Packers collect WR's. Jones could jump at the chance to compete for the number 1 spot in Carolina. He is a complete receiver and would fit as a young vet to teach Gettis and Lafell.

Some OL help also but not gonna get into specifics. We always seem to find "make you go who?" guys who play well.

We need to resign. Kalil, CJ, James Anderson, Dante, Landri and Beason.

Sign and trade Dwill. Hopefully for a mid to late 2nd. Trade Smith along with a compensatory pick to move up in the draft to the mid third.

Then in the draft we go

1st. Patrick Peterson. Patrick has not been mentioned as much as AJ Green (the flashy pick) or Nick Fairley ( the hyped need pick) but with the first overall you draft talent not need. Peterson will be an upgrade over Marshall.

Dwill pick. Marvin Austin.

3rd. Marcus Cannon. Put him at RG and we would have alleys not holes on the right side.

3rd. Jarvis Jenkins. Big space eater.

4th. Dwayne Harris. Can we please get a return guy? Could he end up being Smitty's replacement?

UDFA- Shaun Draughn RB, Mark LeGree FS
