It's time Panthers snap ball to Armanti

Both Hester and Leon were conditoned to running frequently while in college.

Edwards was a QB, allbeit a running one, but nontheless there is a much bigger transtion athletically that Edwards has/had to get over.

The most comparable player I can think of that had been succesfull is Antwaan randle el.

Or Brad Smith perhaps. Maybe Hines Ward.

Now, this leads to the next logical question. What do Ward, Randle-El and Smith have in common that isn't true of Edwards?

Brad Smith is a good comparison, forgot about him. Hines Ward though had plenty of play a Reciever before coming to the NFL.

Im guessing you going at the three aftermentioned all played in a football program that plays Divison I as opposed to Edwards.

Yep.

Can you find good players in the Subdivision (or whatever the heck they're calling it these days)? Yeah, but you can also outsmart yourself thinking you've found a diamond in the rough only to have it turn out the level of competition actually did matter.

I agree with the reasoning. We can judge and question how much of his QB production had to do with him and the competion.

But how much can we base that on if he's playing a postion he never played before?

Starting AE at QB is a tad different than letting him get a few snaps in a couple of series throughout a game. He has shown he has some athletic ability and God only knows he couldn't mess a pass play up more than Clausen already does. If you trade up for a guy in the 3rd rd, you have to at least see if you were wrong or right.

He played receiver in high school, just not in college.

Theoretically, the combine is supposed to help provide insight for times like these, but as I recall Edwards only worked out as a QB there.

Another interesting twist is to forget for a second that he has barely even been put out there at WR...in a season where nothing matters anymore...thus making you question his ability.

Instead, ask yourself this: for the next two years or so you have Smith, LaFell, and Gettis. Where does Armanti even fit? We don't need four WRs lining up each week, by the time Smitty even GETS to the Hines Ward Stage (not even close yet) we will have been able to draft a real college WR by then, and LaFell and Gettis show real promise.

Ability, no ability, too small for QB, coaches keeping him on the bench, or a crappy Mountaineer Package. It doesn't matter what you want to spin. This kid may not even GET to play.

Hey, it's worth a shot. What's the worst that could happen? He plays crappy and we lose? There's at least a chance he could make something happen. The kid has potential, he just hasn't had a chance. Yes, there's a strong possibility he sucks and can never amount to anything in this league. But we won't know that for sure til we give him a chance. Hell, it's worth it just for the entertainment value. Give the kid a chance.

Alot is going depend on the coach and/or OC we bring in. Edwards was not drafted to be just a WR but of a Randle el type of player.

He could still get some decent time switching in and out with Lafell and or Gettis, trick plays and as a retuner. El was only a slot WR but still assited his team pretty well.

You think we're going to sign two starting receivers in the off season?

Don't have to. Sign one, let Gettis or LaFell start at number two.

Also, whether we like it or not, the potential is there that the team could start Gettis and LaFell next year as the one and two.

Whether that's the best idea is debatable, but it's a legit possibility.

The fact that the only way they can get him on the field is in the Wildcat is really not a good sign of his progression as a WR. Forget about the "special plays" you have for him if he can't play in the regular offensive possesions he will not have much of a future in the NFL. Waste of a pick right now.

I don't know that you can count on Smith being around - and effective - for another two years.

He could very well be the number three receiver next season. Some might argue he should be.

You can count on him being effective. He's younger than Hines Ward and better than Hines Ward and Hines Ward still produces in Pittsburgh. But yes...will he WANT to stick around. As others have said, that depends on who we bring in.
