It seems that what they said about his character to large extent is true.

He seems aloof and arrogant, in the sense that he is not people person.

This is a team sport and he has to learn to get along with team mates, make connections and develop chemistry.

I'm not a "people person" per se either, but when I've played sports I never had a problem gaining friends or getting along with my teammates. Sports should be the easiest way to socialize with others even for the biggest of loners... unless you're a jackass...

Ask Ray Lewis... He makes money, best in the game at his position for years. Ever heard teammates have problems with him? He loves to play the game and plays it accordingly. He'll go out there and lay it on the line for his teammates. And they love him for it.

Despite what a prick Favre has been towards coaches/media/front office, ask his teammates over the years if they had a problem with him...

Of course there's different agendas involved when there's money to be made, but if you think, even on the lowest levels of sports, say from high school on - there are agendas. It still doesn't affect a team's ability to get along for the most part, and yeah there are usually cliques still, but successful teams are able to put agendas aside and play together, if there are loners on teams it's because they want to be loners.

Even when it was clear he had lost something, Jake Delhomme's teammates were still ready to follow him through the gates of Hell. We frown on Fox for keeping Delhomme in place longer than he should have, but truth is a load of his offensive teammates wanted him there.

He gained that loyalty from day one when he marched out onto the field, told a downtrodden offense to "get their (bleep)ing heads up" because they were gonna win that game, and then backed it up.

You'll find most leaders have a moment like that, a point where they ascend into being something larger in the eyes of their teammates. Others try for it, but if you try for it and it goes bad, you dig yourself a hole you might never be able to dig out from.

The coach can make you a starter. Your teammates are the ones that make you a leader.

This did not look like what I saw, or the situation Kurb is talking about. I never saw Jimmy open his mouth and if he did, I doubt you would've been able to hear it because he wouldn't have been very loud. Could've been a different time though...

And I don't doubt that what you're saying could've happened at sometime during the game - but if it did, I have no idea how Clausen made it out of that game without his face being adjusted.

Exactly. Which is why I think Jimmy appears to be so isolated in many of our eyes. When you come in with all that hype... When you are braggadocios and come in that huddle talking a big man's game but follow it up with little substance, guys are gonna stop listening to what you have to say. And obviously, they won't follow you.

Yeah I know... Which I think is why he took shots at him in the post-game interviews b/c he can't just bust people's noses and orbital bones anymore lol.

If I wasn't so damn lazy I'd go pull all my posts and threads from just after draft day when I posted these same observations having watched the kid through high school and college... but, nooooooo, everyone said he was the next franchise QB and I took a beating on this board because I dared question the selection.

one thing i keep thinking about is how the atlanta Oline sucked until ryan got there. i thought for sure they were going to get that guy killed. what happened, though, is that they played at a much higher level because of the guy that they had under center. everyone played above their normal level. i think some of it could be atrributed to coaching, but a lot of it has to do with the respect that ryan got from his teammates right away. sure, he has some good mechanics and is an accurate passer, but it's those intangibles that people got on board with.

that is something that clausen is lacking. he isn't someone that these guys will go to battle for. as much as i was ready for jake to leave, that was the one best quality he had...that regardless of how bad or good he did, that team loved him and were incredibly loyal to him. and it started from day one. people can tell right away if this is a guy that they can get behind. clausen wasn't that guy. he went in cocky/overly confident. confidence is good, but only in the proper proportion with what you bring to the table.

he might do better with another team, but i think there is no further that he can go with this team. i have no desire to keep him around after this year. i don't care what potential he has or how well he could do with another team. i just don't think he fits this one and he will really only be a waste of roster space and cap money while he's here. trade him away...package him up with a late round pick and get back into the 2nd round. draft luck or newton (or whoever the new coaching staff feels good about) and pick up a vet QB to help bring the rookie QB along.

btw...you watch how luck and newton's teammates respond to them and how they talk about them and you can tell they have that abililty to get their players behind them. their teammates believe in them and will go to battle for them. thats what i want here.

wouldn't happen. A team would simply draft a QB instead.
