Smith wanted Clausen to apologize to the guys in the huddle

I'm sitting here laughing at folks trying to defend Steve Smith for the drops. The guy has had more drops this year than any year yet he wants to blame the quarterback. Both players in this situation are hurting each other, defending the division leader in drops isn't valid.

Also, I would like to add that I was kind of proud of myself for calling that clausen would be poo, but after witnessing this horrible horrible season, i'm kind of upset that I was right. I will no longer brag about calling the failure that is Jimmy clausen, It's like bragging about beating up a 2 year old with a hammer. I will instead continue to pray to the flying spaghetti monster that Luck declares and we draft him, and as a bonus deal, harbaugh comes out too, you know, as a way for the FSM to show us that if we continue to believe in him that he will look down upon us and touch our hearts with his noodly appendage and bring joy to the carolinas once more.

It's so easy for a wideout to blame the QB for everything when the most complicated decision a WR makes during a game is what route to take when he has a choice.

Smitty's job is to catch the ball when it is thrown his way, bad pass or good pass. Clausen's job is to get him the ball if he is open and deems him as a good target.

Neither have been effective at their jobs this year. Period.

Smitty doesn't help the situation by berating a less talented rookie either. Be a leader by example Smitty, not by being a douche.

Save a few hundred pats on your back for all of us buddy.

It should be satisfaction enough for you to watch more and more of Clausens' supporters jumping off the Clausen bandwagon each week.

Smitty is a bad guy to use b/c he is just a jerk.

but these are paid professionals....at some point there is a time when players can get away with saying you need to pick it up. If Smitty would have been quiet all year and appeared more supportive I would have no problem w/ him going off now.

This is what makes me smile. Not so much that they are jumping off the Clausen bandwagon, but that they are starting to feel as if they have enough information now to where they can start to see a definitive picture as opposed to blindly jumping to an immediate conclusion on the status of a rookie.

Fixed.

Plain and simple, THIS KID SUCKS!!! Steve Smith can do no wrong in my eyes so watch your mouth when you say he dropped a pass because it looked to me like another awful throw by Jimmy. Steve Smith has done more for this franchise than anyone else ever has. We should be thankful he even is willing to still play for us.

... He definitely made Ken Lucas and Anthony Bright better looking...:D

I was unaware that high school and college football football players performed to the calibre of a professional in the NFL.

While you might have assumed for that to be enough information, for me at least (don't want to speak for others), it was not. I wanted to see how Clausen would fit in over time, and realized that early on his career there will be growing pains. With the abysmal play in many areas of the team, it's difficult to fairly evaluate Clausen.

Again, this is all in regards to my personal standpoint. Other people who have taken a similar perspective might have other reasons also.

I felt early on that Clausen got thrown into a shitty situation. Fox & Crew for years have utilized the same game plan. They do not in anyway cater their play design to the players they have. It's the usual: everybody get to the line, give 110% effort, and we'll push the ball down the field and control the clock.

The players we drafted most recently do not fit that scheme at all.

New players were drafted for a new coach with the old one still here.

Couple that with the lack of a safety net TE, young WRs, and an oline in shambles, you can really only expect so much.

Part of being a QB though is like being a pitcher in baseball. You have to have a 5 second memory. Bad play? Forget about it and step up. Clausen has it programmed into his head that he has VERY little time to get the ball out, and with his slow throwing motion that complicates things further. Play designs either have the receivers running 15 yards down field before making their breaks or cherry picking the line of scrimmage for a dump off.

Jimmy is throwing to where he sees IS open, not what WILL be open.

This is a fault of the coaching staff as well as the players (QB + Oline + WRs).

From what I've seen and read, Jimmy has the skills to become a viable NFL QB. Is he the franchise QB that I originally hoped for when he was drafted? The more I see, the less I think so. He has the final few games to save his job, so if anything, these last 3 games might just be the most important games in his professional career.

tldr; I'll evaluate at the end of the season, not before or during. There are too many variables involved to fairly assess this season before it's concluded.

As I've said in other posts, Jimmy has yet to demonstrate he has the skills to become a viable NFL QB. You yourself mentioned the slow delivery among countless other PHYSICAL problems with Jimmy, it's hard to imagine he has the necessary skills. I don't base my opinion on him based on the game as a whole and the outcome of games but rather on him as an individual and what he can do for us. I see too many weaknesses in him, the same weaknesses he's had since HS, that lead me to believe it's a severe uphill battle for him to be a viable NFL QB.

I have a feeling most people on here HOPED he would be good because we drafted him and he had a hyped career but when you actually look at him and the TOOLS he brings to the job, I'm not hopeful.

It may seem early to you but with almost any young NFL player you can see some reasons to be hopeful and some tools that could possibly lead to success in the future, but with Jimmy I see little to none.

This is all great conversation, but the majority of this has nothing to do with Smitty calling him out.. ..as if Smitty is the perfect example of a NFL professional..
