About this laptop....

So, my Lenovo Thinkpad has been giving me hell lately. It just cut off on me at random (about the 10th time it happened this year). CD drive still giving me error messages and trying to eject itself randomly. Random slowdowns that Avast or anti-spyware programs can't figure out. Probably outdated, I know it's a POS. UNC IT center can't figure out what the hell is wrong with it (for I have been there numerous times, to no avail).

so, should i hang on to this POS laptop (since it was free from the school) or go get a new one with my refund check early next year? And if I should keep the laptop, how should I go about getting it fixed?

If it's 2 years or older get a new one. Thinkpads soak up dust around their heatsink(put your hand near the vent after it's been on for like an hour or so, it should be wayyy hotter than normal). Secondly, if you reinstall your OS it might speed up. Windows likes to degrade over time with registry errors and stuff because of the way it's set up so that could be why it's slow. The CD thing is probably related to something that either didn't install right or trying to install still, that is.. some program is looking for something where your cd drive is.

Thinkpads are built solid, but strangely they're not built to take punishment from college students. They're more business oriented.
