Andrew Luck News & Updates

so in saying that, maybe luck isn't the "answer" as you say, but he could be one of several that add up to making a biiiiiig difference in the next panthers team to take the field.

Bah, if Andrew Luck or Cam Newton came in here, and we didn't upgrade our O-line, or shore up our D, then he'd have the same problems Clausen, Moore, and Delhomme had.

If either one of these young guys are more talented than any of the three QBs we've had in the past two years, we might see a couple more wins, but there's little difference between a 2-14 team and a 4-12.

Our Front Office and Ownership are responsible for this mess. We aren't going to change owners most likely, so we need to change the FO.

to call one of the top 5 most successful teams in the last decade mediocre is easily the dumbest thing ever written..

Sorry to bust your bubble, but unless you bring home a Championship trophy, you aren't successful. The reason they play is to go all the way and win it. That is THE defining result of being a NFL team.

I was listening to this and what Matt Williamson said is dead on with what many Panther fans are saying. He basically says that Luck is a must have because of 3 reasons

1)We have decent offense and with a good signal caller (good not mediocre) we can score points. We have a line, RB's, and some WRs. He even argues that we aren't the worst team right now and that were not that far from relevance. Again goes back to that we look awful because our offense can't stay on the field.

2)There is NO DEFENSIVE STUD to take at #1

3) If Luck isn't in the draft trading out of the first pick will be really, really difficult

In all we have to take Luck. He might not be Jesus but he is 100000000000x better then we have now.

But, then he threw in this interesting nugget - he said he knows some people out on the west coast with some "insider" info on Luck, and said that he really thinks he's gonna be the next big one at QB. He said his guys out there told him that Luck has pretty much changed the Stanford offense as the season has progressed. He said he heard that Luck calls many of his own plays on the field, and has actually created variations of existing plays because he's so intelligent/aware on the field and because his skill set has opened up plays further that they already had, or something like that. He also said that Harbaugh's offensive system is pretty extensive and that Luck has obviously mastered that from the stuff I just mentioned.

this is very consistent with the tings that have have read about the situation there.

it's one of the best QB and HC/OC type relationships that there is in football at any level. these guys are totally simpatico. they feed off each other much like payton and brees do. same with peyton and tom moore.

sure, it's college, but these guys start somewhere. the earlier they get their relationship going, the better imo. it can only help with luck's development.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
