Andrew Luck News & Updates

If Harbaugh leaves, Luck goes pro. I don't think there's much question about that. He wouldn't have to go to us; could he 49ers, Michigan, or any other NFL team.

But really, I don't know what the question is here. If I'm Jerry I do whatever it takes to get Luck in a Panthers uniform. Hiring Harbaugh is one sure fire way to do that while also getting a top coaching candidate. Some say Harbaugh would cost more than an assistant, but with the rookie cap going into effect whenever the CBA is signed we're already saving money on the #1 pick compared to who other recent teams.

An extra million or two per year for Harbaugh seems a small price to pay if it ensures that we get proper value for that top pick with Andrew Luck. Not to mention the ticket sales it would generate over a non-flashy pick like Grimm/Fairly or something.

We need to spend the next 2.5 weeks watching for 3 things, but there is no guarantee any will occur:

1. News that Harbaugh is leaving Stanford or news that he is interviewing.

2. News that reveals who the Panthers are interviewing.

3. CBA News.

These are the only three factors that really matter.

Or wait 5 days after his bowl game on the 3rd and around which he will probably announce declaring or not.

I think Luck will declare, it's really going to be up to the Panthers.

They did have an interesting discussion over what they would be willing to give up in a trade with us for the #1 pick. I wonder what it would take for us to give up the #1 pick if Luck declares?

2011: 1st 2nd 3rd 4th

2012: 1ST 2nd 3rd

2013: 1st 2nd

Vernon Davis

:D

I can't remember where I heard it but one analyst said at the very least 3 1st round picks. Sounds about right to me.

My favorite trade proposal someone came up with on the 49ers Forum: ALL of their picks in the 2011 draft plus their 1st-rounders in 2012 and 2013 plus their 2nd-rounder in 2012 plus both Patrick Willis and Vernon Davis.

You know......I might just go with the trade if they offered us that.

If they offered half of that I would take it.

I'm sure there's a way they could get Alex Smith in that deal too.

Still a bit steep, but I like that people are starting to look at options other than Luck.

2011: Swap firsts, 49ers give up their 2nd and fourth

2012: We get their 2nd and 3rd

I take that--assuming about equality on a draft trade chart. You don't want the deal too rich that they have to pass on it.
