Andrew Luck News & Updates

If we get the #1 pick we are trading down. To many holes to draft a QB at #1.

If he is the second coming, as many have said, fans will burn the stadium down if the FO passes on him.

If he comes out, he will be drafted by the Panthers.....if we win the Luck Lottery.

I saw a while back (a few days) someone posted about a letter writing idea. Well consider the bug firmly planted. I had a sideline pass for warmups during the Panthers game in Seattle. (I am a season ticket holder for the Oregon Ducks), and an avid Panthers fan. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hurney and Mr. Morrison before the game and got pictures with both of them. I liked Mr. Morrison, Hurney, was so-so. Seemed like a guy at the end of his rope.. promised we were going to win the game.. hahaha. Oops. Anyway, Mr. Morrison saw my Ducks hat and my Stewart Jersey and asked where my girlfriend and I were from. I said Salem Oregon, and he asked how I became a Panther fan. So I told him a story.. When I was young, I loved the Giants. My mom is a Bears fan and my Dad is a Rams fan. The only reason I was a Giants fan was because they were blue and my favorite color was blue. I also liked Lawrence Taylor (Pre-coke and underaged whores). I heard about the expansion teams coming out, and at the time the NFC was better (more powerful than the AFC), so I said I would like the team they put in the NFC. It was the Panthers, and I've been a fan on the West Coast ever since. With the development of Direct TV and the forums, I stay well connected. Anyway, I said, hey sir, I know you pay close attention to what fans want... and I said there is a coach in the Pac-10 with a pretty darn good QB that would give people in Carolina and their fans all over the U.S. a reason to smile and buy tickets.... and thats Jim and Andrew. He said "They are playing pretty darn good football down there aren't they? I said yes they are, and come April they need to be on the ticket. That was said to Mr. Morrison.

Also after the game, (we were sitting in the 2nd row 45 yard line 100 level, Jon Beason came over and gave me his game gloves and signed my football, I told him to keep his head up and that next year would be better. He looked more than defeated, it was really sad.

Our number one weakness this year is QB. After that its DT followed by RG. Two of those things could be addressed in FA.

CB

SS

FB

Would be other things of note. Still dose not warrant trading down IMO.

david I don't like your username

PM me a replacement

Wait, you can do that?

Because I'm seriously thinking about taking the 89 out of mine.

Not because I'm not still an 89 fan, but he isn't gonna be here forever, and I just want my username to have some more longevity.

If 89 is in my name, and the 89 after Smitty sucks, then you can see how it'd be a problem.

I think a promised cool 50-65 million is enough for anyone to leave. Jake Locker being the perfect example for what Luck should do. I think that Luck understands that they were pretty good this year, and stomping the ACC champion V-Tech Hokies should be enough. However, the labor agreement needs to happen, ASAP, so that when their bowl is over, we can hear Harbaugh and Luck both declare for the draft. Then I would offer Hardbaugh a 4.5 mil a year contract with incentives to push it to 6 mil a year.

Does Luck leave or stay if they win their BCS bowl game?

Say they win does he stay to try and get a National Championship next year or is the Orange Bowl enough for him OR say they lose does he stay to redeem the team? Just wondering if the outcome of that game will a factor on his choice.

getting a job in the NFL and having a long career >> any bowl game or award. he only puts his future at unnecessary risk by opting not to go into the draft, esp. when he is pretty much assured a #1 (or at least a top 3-5) overall pick.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
